Default FAMOUS! & STOLEN '84 C10 5.3 article posted on LSXTV.com

Woohoo! another 15 mins of fame in the budget build!

Earlier in the day before my truck was stolen (2-15-2013), I was contacted by an editor from LSXTV.com about doing an article on my truck. By the time I got a chance to respond to the email my truck was stolen. So I told him about it and he was able to mention that in the article!

He then posted the article on three websites. Awesome! Gone but still famous. hahaha This is definitely keeping my spirits up after a long day searching salvage yards and recycling center for my turck.

What type/brand of car alarm did you have on it?

I'm considering learning how to start a fund raiser for donations to start a new build. Anybody know how to accomplish this? PM if so.

Thanks!

None, The avis alarm is sitting here on my shelf waiting for install. I never thought somebody would still a truck that was primered 5 different colors. Hood was blue, L door and fender was brown, tailgate was red and you see the rest.

Doors where lock and keys in my pocket. that was it. Was on a date night with the wife (yes she enjoyed the truck to) and when we came out of the theater it was gone.

BTW for anyone local. High dollar Bridge Street Mall informed me that they do not have security cameras anywhere.

Lesson learned. Cant trust people even with a truck that looks like junk. Next time a hidden kill switch plus other surprises will be installed first.

Toggle switch in line with the crank position sensor signal prevents starting, ever, but they can still tow it away. Stinky deal. My buddies 85 silverado turbo truck got borrowed and driven twice through a barb wire chain link fence before leaving it. Every panel was trashed. Luckily, the turbo setup was not taken during the feasco.

Good idea on the crank sensor. Then it'd just sit there and spin. giving me time to run them down...

Dude, that is horrible to hear about your buddies truck. Great the turbo set up was still there though.

Probably some kids looking for an old car that was easy to steal. Nothing a few kill switches won't stop in the future.

Sucks to hear. Anyone who steals another man's pride and joy is a waste. Hopefully Karma catches up with them some day.

Thanks man.

I had that same feeling at first. Thought about not building anything different again so that It doesnt get stolen and lose all my hard work. I've decided I couldnt live that way. I'm always building and changing things. I've just got to reinforce the security on my builds.

Things like this remind us all to beef up security and not take our safety for granted. Just don't advertise your secrets in a build thread!

I've heard of quite a few things getting stolen at theaters. They know you'll be in there for 2 hours. And the parking lot is often secluded and dark.

The finish on my car is about like yours was, but trouble is old vehicles just naturally draw attention to themselves. I keep wanting to drive cross country to visit my brother but the thought of spending the night at some interstate motel is stopping me.

This sucks! I have owned cars that were stolen and it is a feeling of complete violation. My 1984 Rx-7 was stolen twice, once when it had an alarm installed. The jinx to most alarms is that once you have power to the normal ignition circuits you can push the valet switch and the car will start. On that one I cut into the starter circuit and connected it to a factory switch for an option the car didnt have. This way I hide the kill switch right out in the open. For your C-10 I would try one of the dash mounted intermittant wiper switches. Even if the wiper switch is on the colum stalk.
