Looks great! I've been following this thread and for some reason the oil pan never entered my mind. Can't wait to see it together.

Would it be rude to ask how you aligned the two halves for welding.

I've been mulling it over and I could imagine using short tubes to join the oil galleries and a length of forged steel machined to bolt into the main journals to align it.

If you did that it would only be getting the deck straight, another couple of machined plates to bolt the to halves together at the top and perhaps one across the sump, would/could solve that problem.

That's the only way I could see you getting it nice and straight/square.

Serious amount of work and skill here.

liek the V12 like to see if you can get a 16 cyclinder to do this too. welding and bolting 2 LS V8s together , kinda like the Bugattis W16

well the W12 is different from this lay out. what your thinking of is more inline with the Cadillac Sixteen

Any full on engine manufacturing and custom applications get my panties wet.
As for the Bugatti W16s, they literally are two W8s.
In turn those technically aren't, but essentially two V4s.
Not to mention the whole thing is quadruple turbo'd.
It's crazy the things that come from over thinking your power dilemma. Lol
I love this whole thread, every character typed.

I love it, what about the crank sensor? What the wheel on the crank sensor wheel look like. Or will it be set up to trigger spark another way?

Tony-

Apples to apples- back of block (bellhousing mounting surface) to tip of the waterpump -which would INCLUDE the dist & access-but NOT the fan-

BMW M70/73 V12 is 748mm- or just under 29½"

LS is 730mm -about 28¾"

So the BMW V12 is ONLY ¾" LONGER than the LS V8...

So I don't know what you are measuring to come up w/ 13 inches....

From the camera angle it looks to be a little less- but I have measured it many times before fabbing up the motor mounts!!

just realized if you guys did this by adding a 427 with half of another 427 that would be a 10.5 liter v12 and your left with a 4 banger bigger then most v6's....
