Default ls1 g body build

hey guys some may know i was building an 86 monte carlo a few years back but ended up selling it. well ive been in nc for a few months now and finally sold the 88 f250 i had up in nj at my moms house. well with that said and alot of searching, (old gm cars in really bad shape down here are expensive as heck) i found my next projcet. picked up a roller another 1986 monte carlo for $400. needs a good amount of work but its rust free and what ive wanted to build since i sold off my other one.

(my last one i was making into a drag car) this one im going to go with a pro touring style look.

ill have more pictures as i get the free time to work on it.

update 2/3/13

well looks like i have my parts list pretty much set for when i get up to nj.
ill be picking up a ton of parts for this build

complete ls1 with wiring harness and computer

fresh built 4l60e trans

ss front nose conversion stuff

c5 zo6 wheels with tires

ls1 camaro front calipers

ls1 camaro complete dash and center console.

update. 3/26/13 have not had much time since i got back from nj and my myrtle beach trips this month. been selling off some of the ls1 parts i know i wouldnt need and with that cash picked up a few parts for the car.

here are a few pics for now.

installed an lh8 oil pan kit. cleaned up motor and painted it chevy orange (have to clean paint off the gasket surfaces) bought a set of 5.3 heads that ill be porting and picked up an edelbrock intake.

also picked up a dual exhaust crossmember from jegs and lsx conversion motor mounts for the monte.

Well today I test fit the motor in the car. Need to tweek the motor mounts to get it to sit right but here ya go. Don't need much of a cowl hood either just a 2.5-3 inch will be way more than enough. After motor mounts are tweaked I'm going to test fit the ls7 manifolds and downpipes that I picked up.

well the transdapt mounts i picked up that were suppose to be for a g body lsx swap didnt work for me. so i sold them off and picked up a set of s10 lsx swap mounts which as of today fit great (just had to drill 3 new holes in the crossmember but it did the job. motor and trans should be reinstalled by end of the weekend.

but the past few weeks i scored 2 good deals(at least i think deals were good) got a set of 17 inch torque thrust wheels. seller traded me his torque thrust wheels for my z06 replicas and he gave me cash on top of the deal. (i have $200 invested into wheels and tires lol) and i also scored a set of brand new eibach pro-kit springs for under a 3rd the price of retail. box was mangled but springs are brand new.

since i had a little down time with work i started getting a little body work done and test fit the new wheels. doors are pretty beat up so its going to take me some time to get them looking good again.

as far as the front bumper goes im going to be removing the area where the emblem was installed(its raised up from bumper cover) and making it look smooth and clean.

motor and trans are officially in the car as of today. put the heads and intake on to see what kind of cowl hood i would need with the new set of motor mounts i had installed. looks like i shouldnt need too big of a hood.

not even going to try. just looking at it the intake sits above the fenders. not much maybe an inch. ill have to put a string across the fenders to see exactly how much taller the intake is.

The hood is taller in the middle than at the fender. The truck intakes sit above the fender a similar amount and the stock hood fits. You might want to try it.

Looking good man. Can't wait to start working on mine. The s10 swap mounts, were they considered set back plates? I need set back plates but my current build in my silverado we used the trans dapt ones and had to modify them to work.

There is an air box that sits between the SS nose and the radiator. You need to add that to the car. It will help with cooling, as it forces all the air entering through the nose/grill to go through the radiator.
