Default 6.2L (L92) model year?

I have a 6.2L(L92) that came from an escalade and want to verify the model year of the engine. It is all stock and swapped into a 1972 cutlass, but i am having some computer/tuning issues and want to verify the engine model year in order to match up the correct OS segments.

I have attached a pic of some numbers on the engine. I am not sure if this is what I need or not.

Any help or information about where/what to look for would be appreciated.

Thanks
Matt

I've tried all the numbers you supplied. I'm not coming up with anything linking to an escalade.

Verify on the rear of the motor that it says 6.2 Also on the passenger side of the motor on the back it should have a part number. I believe its 12584727

That is the block part number.

It really doesn't matter what year the engine is. All L92s are Gen IV engines and have a 58 tooth recultor wheel.

You should be able to pull the VIN from the ECU and from the VIN you can get the year of the vehicle. This will matter if you are going to run an automatic transmission so that the ECU and the TCU can communicate properly.

VIN would also make a different if you lived in a state like California and was trying to do a Smog Legal swap.. (but most likely your and most are not ! LOL)..

But if you go to an GM Dealer to try an buy parts. .the 1st thing they ask is for the VIN ....

This^^^. I am having the same problems as you. Best to have the The ECM and TCM be of the same year to be safe. I as told mine was a 2009 year but that was not so. Turned out to be out of a 2007 Escalade. I believe GM made some changes in the 2008 model year to the GMLAN protocal. So a 2009 TCM will not talk correctly to a 2007 ECM.

I currently have the engine mated to a TKO 600, so the auto trans stuff is not an issue.

I have an ECU, but I don't think it is from the same engine that I have. I bought the engine, harness and ECU from a member here, but do not think they are from the same vehicle. they were supposed to be, but the ECU shows a 2009 escalade VIN and the part numbers on some of the engine components(MAP sensor & TB) seem to point to a 2008.

I am having troubles with a P0606 fault code that causes the DBW pedal to lose function. This only seems to occur when I try to roll into the throttle somewhat quickly(such as trying pass on highway). gentle driving or low engine speed(maybe 2000rpm or below) to WOT, things seem to work fine. I was told that it may be due to the TB, MAF, MAP and ECU having different OS/segments in the ECU. I assume this is related to more changes from 2008 to 2009.

before burning cash on another ECU and giving HP Tuners more money, i thought i would try and verify the engine model year. If i am going to throw another $160 at the problem, i wanted to be as close to the stock situation as possible.

I posted another thread here and on HP Tuners about the problem. i will try and include a link below.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagn...rror-code.html

any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated. as much i like being able to get nearly 20mpg, i sure would like the option to make those numbers worse.

thanks,
matt

EFI Live lets you swap any tune into 1 piece of hardware, I also threw plenty of money away into HPTuners too.

When you license a PCM with EFI live, you license the PCM hardware (the metal box).

Once you license that metal box, you could flash 8,000,000 different tune files to it from different years/makes/models, options, etc, and never pay another dollar.

HPtuners is more like "pay as you go" if you are trying to play around with different OS's/calibrations on your PCM.

I know, it's painful. Should have spent the extra $200 and bought EFILive from day one. I made the same mistake http://www.efilive.com/index.php?pag...mart&Itemid=54

Yes I understand that thanks for the info im sure it will help others. But to my knowledge you still cannot flash different OS's into the e38 which is the problem here, regardless of which tuning suite you prefer to use. Meaning you cant flash a 2010 Camaro OS into an 07 Escalade ECM. Thats what we need here to make this guys life easy

Yeah, if you want to switch truck/camaro tunes, you'd need to do something inside the ECM with GM TIS.

Let me see if this is correct. If you want to flash a 2010 Camaro tune into an E38 PCM/ECM you need a 2010 Camaro E38 service number such as 12633238. If you want to flash a 2007 Escalade program you need an E38 service number such as 12612384.

What that means is whether you use HPtuners or EFi-Live the only way you can do what I suggested above is to get one of these

This is a tech2 which is a GM service tool for tune related updates etc. Or you can go to the dealer and possibly have a shop tech do this for you but you will need to do some homework first to make sure that there is a tech in the shop who understands what needs to be done, and how to do it.

Any which way you slice it as first mentioned OS swaps in e38's are a pitfa and considering how low buck ecm/tcm's are, if you havent licensed any credits towards what you have you might be easiest to find a new pair of brain boxes that match up to what your trying to run first.

I have a question on what computer I need to purchase...I got shorted my computer for my 08 L92 from an escalade. I plan to keep the vvt...what would be the best option for me to get a computer? Do I need a specific application to work best? I know my harness has 2 plugs and should be an e38
