Not much, talked to several shops and told them my end goal to be in 600s to wheel. All they said I needed was a billet forward hub and we did extra clutches, and transgo shift kit. Basically told me if I was gonna be 800+ I may need some more serious parts.

Its a fairly tight convertor built by a local shop. Probably 2800ish.

Good news first: Transmission/driveshaft in and look/work nicely.

Bad news: I never needed a transmission. Its been the rearend making noise this whole time. FML

After pulling the rear apart, its a 3.42 with Auburn posi

I found the outer pinion race was spinning in the housing. So I changed both pinion races/bearings. I red loctited it going back in. I went over everything and all bearings etc looked nice. So I threw new cups on the carrier bearings and reassembled it, and it still makes noise.

Not sure what I want to do at this point, really like to go to 3.08 gear. but im really not sure I want to spend $400+ on going threw this whole thing right now, because I'd probably be tempted to buy moser axles also.... and turn into a snowball like everything I do. May pull it apart again next weekend go ahead and swap carrier/axle bearings and recheck gear pattern (couldn't read the junk grease they give you in a diff kit) So need some good paint marking compound.

I did install my new VooDoo MBC after we got rear back together, and 15lbs pulls pretty hard. Supposed to drop truck off tomorrow for getting dyno tuned by local Tech college. We'll see how that goes, I hope 10lbs feels more like 15 when hes done...

My current plan is I found a complete rearend for $150 3.08 gear, just gonna snag it and swap in my auburn and call it a day.

More bad news as my money pit and longing to actually go fast saga continues... Tuner called yesterday and said he got my idle tune to 14.7 from what I was at 10.5. And smoothed out my horribly jagged VE tables.

Then tells me he can't do any power pulls because my turbo is leaking oil into turbine side. Basically its pushing oil into intercooler/motor. So looks like my used turbo purchase was a bad idea. So I get to buy another turbo. Freakin Fantastic.

He said I need to pull intercooler and make sure its not got any oil in it. and clean charge piping. So I found a GT45 a buddy has that's brand new for $200 im gonna throw on to get me rolling again for time being. Its a tick smaller than what I have now, but I was considering buying a BW turbo that I had specd out by a local shop... until I heard the price. $899 and it requires 3.5/4" DP so I would have to re-do my entire exhaust.

Not opening that can of worms right now, maybe next year. I think I can sell both my Chinese turbos and recoup most of what I have in them when I decide to actually pony up for a real turbo.

I already have the GT45 for sale, seller won't buy it back Just to many changes to make for a temporary Turbo. Everything is different

My options as of now are:

#1- Buy a new in the box One3 from a buddy $350 (gets me running and back on dyno by Monday with no effort)

#2- Have mine rebuilt $325 ( that is fixing the tolerance issues these have and having Garrett spec bearings installed) probably put me out a week

#3- Buy BW S472- $1200-1300 (total guessitmate with turbo and new 4"DP etc) Probably an easy 2 weeks out with fab work etc.

I'm fairly confident that the One3 will reach my goals or very close to 600-650whp. I'm just worried about longevity and getting into same current issue later. Which rebuilding it with better specs sounds appealing. Yes the BW really is way to go...My luck is I spend 1k+ on a turbo and blow motor a week later lol.

Really thinking rebuilding and having a well put together One3 will keep me happy, and within my goals.

Little update.

Dropped Turbo off Friday after work for a rebuild. Checked on it today, and of course it had toast thrust bearing among other things. But it being Chinese he is having to track down correct parts... so my 2 day turn around I'm hoping is now by end of the week

Also got my rearend apart again to swap posi. Well my 88-98 rear isn't gonna work with out more mods than I feel like doing (moving shock and leaf perches)

So back to fixing mine. I pressed on new carrier bearings and did axle bearings also.
Scored a set of 3.08s yesterday. My feeling is I had the pinion preload way to tight and that was my noise. So waiting on a rearend guy to do my setup. since im not that confident it would be right if I did it. Again shooting for end of week to be back together and running. We'll see what happens

Picked up my Turbo thurday after work. Looks fantastic, it has all tolerance issues corrected and US bearings installed. Glasse beaded the housing etc. looks brand new. My only complaint was he chipped the hell out of my turbine housing...I KNEW I should have asked to be carefull with it when I dropped it off. So now I get to re-paint that :FAIL:
I did find out that using a typical V-band half as DP flange is not correct (as I've had a bad leak at that flange) They make specific outlet/DP flanges. So I ordered one from racepartsolutions.com So when that comes in i'll cut old off and weld on new setup.

Also in rearend news: Life still sucks and I hate dicking with it. During the week to make any progress I needed to get both pinion bearings pressed off. Took the old bearing and dremeled out the ID so I could make setup easier to change/check pinion shims for depth/backlash. Go to install it and threads for nut are mushroomed.... FML

So I was dead in water until I could figure it out. Ended up getting a die. Grinding the fat side down and cleaned it up. I got the nut on.

So my weekend Plans are: Scuff and repaint my housing. Attempt to get my rearend setup.

Jesus I HATE rearend work.

Well i need to get caught up, but I was able to save threads on the pinion. So i pulled both pinion bearings off, Hogged one out with a dremel for dry setup. I only have 3 pinion shims. Original was a .012 and i have a .033/.035. Long story short this is first time I've tried to tackle a setup start to finish. I got my depth I thought reasonable close and backlash into spec. Decided to roll with it. So i heated my new inner bearing in oven to 400* and dropped it on. Installed new crush sleeve, used an impact to get end play out. I installed the carrier and checked pattern... It was way off. I assumed i needed to crush sleeve more to pull the pinion in more to where the original setup was.

I was told not to crush it anymore if my endplay was out. So I was suggested to use an old crush sleeve and do 25ft/lbs. So that's what i did. I ended up with a decent pattern but had to change backlash was only .002 so got it to .007 and went with it. Have a feeling it will have some type of noise issue, but fingers crossed it won't.

I can't test it until i get turbo reinstalled. Waiting on a new DP flange to come in so I can weld that on and hopefully get a good seal. Hopefully by Thursday I'll be buttoning it up.

As of 5/7 truck is back on road. Rearend is quiet!!!!!!!

Truck was running like ****, I spent 2 days tracking what I thought was a misfire. After exhausting majority of common potential issues, the diagnosis was it had a bad lean tune in it from when I picked up from local tech college. So I had intended on taking it back to them to finish working on tune, but classes are over for year.

So I got a local friend to take a look at it. He had it smoothed out under the 0 psi tune in 15 minutes. Wanted to work on boost tuning but rain ruined that. Waited till next morning and spent about 3 hours on it, we started making progress on boost tuning.

Then all of sudden we were getting ton of knock right off idle. Ran out of time to figure that out also. I guess I'm gonna change plugs and try and do some pulls and see if its actually seeing detonation or if its some type of false knock issue.

Well. I guess time for an update: Down and out

Monday evening I changed all plugs hoping to help a knock issue I was having on Sunday we couldn't figure out. Also swapped from 80# to 60# injectors at tuners recommendation for my power level goals. 60s being better driveability.

Tues night got tuner in truck and after an hour figured out the timing map was the cause of my knock issues. Started from scratch and get a good map in and started doing boost pulls. Making great headway, truck was feeling fast. Basically got 10#s dialed in solid (12* timing and 11.3WOT AFR) A buddy with a procharged GTO found us out and about and we decided to do some runs, made 4 pulls against it...didn't do to bad considering. His car isn't fully tuned either and we were basically door to door when we got good runs in.

Noticed on way home 25psi oil pressure. My heart sunk.... this is ALL to familiar.

Pulled truck in garage, let it cool off went to parts store and grabbed a filter. Drained oil and looked like I needed to be panning for gold. FANFUCKINGTASTIC!

So I posted the truck for sale as is. I've had a day to cool off about it... gotten a lot of interest but I honestly don't think even at my ridiculous asking price someone would pry it out of my hands. Maybe a really good trade is probably about it...and so far nothing that has stuck me (2jz big turbo lexus/ F350 diesel)

So I guess its going to go take the spot in my moms garage where my S-10 has been sitting since December till I can afford to replace the short block. And prep my S-10 for powertour in meanwhile

Damn dude! Maybe throw $125 at it, and throw in a JY 5.3. I think I know of one that might be a decent candidate. Text me if your interested.

It will cost more than that. Im not really interested in swapping to iron yet.

I'm having a difficult time making decisions, even though I say im not in a hurry. Truck is still posted on CL for trade... had tons of interest. Nothing so far that has sparked my fancy yet. Lots of guys wanting to buy for cash. But even if I got my 9k, what could I buy that's equally as cool.....Nothing is answer. And I do not want to start over on another build. So I think its gonna stay

Been looking around at forged short blocks. There is a local fresh 5.7 stock crank forged rods/pistons setup for boost for $2900. That's a huge chunk of money vs what I can probably fix mine for. But im scared of doing mine again. Thinking it just needs to be something different. And im tired of taking this thing apart.

also swb squarebodies that clean are getting pretty pricey. take a break and keep the faith.
