Well, I only really got 2 days after work this week to work on truck to prepare for potential test drive this weekend. My intentions were to spend majority of today working on it...then drive. Well I got stuck having to come into work, and I have a wedding directly after. So have to wait till Sunday to get wheels rolling.

Last night I got the radiator hoses, heater hoses figured out and hooked up. still need to do a final radiator mount. I don't like how the tube deal I did worked out. But it will suffice for right now.

Got boost gauge line hooked up

Got my wastegate and boost controller hooked up

Installed the boost reference hose for FPR

Bled the brakes.

Filled it with water, and went ahead and fired it up for first time with all the hoses etc attached to turbo. Let run for probably 15-20 mins, the amount of smoke in garage from heatwrap/paint/exhaust was ridiculous lol.

I don't think the temp sender in the waterpump is going to work... Not sure if coolant is even going across probe being its in the top. Pegged gauge within 5 mins of idling.

I assumed after the system got warm and T-stat opened and I could top it off with water the sensor would register accurately. But that didn't seem to be the case. Gonna see what it does tomorrow. I may have to find an alternative location.

So I need to install some rear wheel spacers/ or rather change to different ones. Change my oil/filter. Clean all crap out of the bed, and I Should be able to drive it around the block Sunday. My list is getting shorter, but a lot of that doesn't need to be done to test drive it.

Weekend goal accomplished. TRUCK HAS BEEN DRIVEN!!

I still have some things to finish up, and found a few bugs to fix. All in all seems to run still decent considering nothing has changed except the plugs, it should run exactly the same as last year in theory (Zero Boost).

My coolant sensor in W/P did NOT work, I assume at top of the pump has a cavity of air and its catching steam not coolant on the probe. It would peg the gauge in less than 5 minutes of idle time. And never showed any symptoms of actually overheating. So I need to find an alternative location.

The downpipe was tucked tight to the floor and was hitting, so I took a grinder the lip that was hitting clearance it and good to go. In my maybe 10 miles worth of driving it yesterday I managed to blow off 2 couplers, 1 I had completely forgot to tighten, the other just wasn't tight enough.

My list for the week: Recalibrate Wideband/make a bracket to hold the box on the firewall.

Install tach, also hook boost gauge lighting up.

Figure out the temp sensor issue

Hook up vacuum to the BOV

Replace tensioner pulley (seems to be making a noise)

Then this weekend swap to 80# injectors/ 3bar map. And see if we can make it run.

Thanks.

15x10 I think is 5.5" BS running a 295/55 MT radial

(using a 1/2" spacer to keep tire from rubbing inner fender when on angle etc.)

After thinking about an alternative location for my temp sender, I decided instead of drilling taping more holes into w/p or anything. I ordered a Autometer housing that goes inline in heater hose. Should have it tomorrow, see how it works out.

Small update.

Swapped in my 80# injectors and 3 bar map on sunday. Had a buddy come by with his HPT, ended up having to license another file that would run a 3 bar OS. Messed with tune majority of the day, biggest issue we were having is I still have 02 sensors, and they were creating some very crappy driveability issues. But it started raining before we could get it fixed.

So following day I just unplugged them and seems to run decent enough to drive around for now. I have probably put 30 miles on it and pretty happy with how it seems to pull already and we are still way off of a good tune.

Also my autometer sender in the heater hose seems to be working and accurate.

Sucks you had to license another file to tune it, but glad your making progress! At least someone is!

I was till Wednesday. She's down.

I lost the governor cover somehow, blew all fluid out Tuesday evening. It sat until I could find parts. Fixed it in a parking lot Wednesday night and seemed to be shifting ok for about 10 miles or so. Then it starting whining... So I assume I smoked the front pump.

On the hunt for a built th400, or will end up getting one built. Hoping I can still get a real dyno/tune session scheduled within a month.

That sucks hopfully you can get it figured out soon, not sure if you have a guy to rebuild your trans but I know a guy here in wood river that does them fairly cheap hes off route 3 you would never know he's there by the size of his shop. He did mine and some friends of mine, pretty sure my friend has a th400 in his car with a bbc and f2 procharger and hasn't had any issues. Let me know if your interested.

Thanks. I think I'm gonna have a local shop I deal with at work build it for me.

Got a little bit done this weekend.

Finally got a bullet (magnaflow) so I built an exhaust, took me majority of day. But I'm fairly happy with it. Still needs rubber hangers, I just welded round bar to frame right now to drive it. It still has a reasonably loud drone inside, but considerably quieter in general. More incognito.

I also got some inner fenders installed. Had to hack up the passenger side to clear DP and wastegate blowdown tube. But fairly straight forward install. Now I can drive in rain and not worry about dirtying up engine bay.

Did a bumpstop mod and used energy low profile bumps.

Was beating around town after doing my exhaust, and decided to see how the truck launched attempting a brake boost. Truck won't build boost on foot brake, just gets to 0 vacuum. I didn't expect it to skate around with M/Ts on it... but it did. 10 PSI on spring right now.

Meh, so far I haven't been overly impressed with how 10lbs feels. And I imagine it will feel slower once the TH400 goes in next weekend.

I'm hoping a tuner can wake it up

I dropped off a TH400 core to transmission shop Wed the 8th to get built. I expected it to be late next week before it was done, called yesterday about a mod I wanted them to do for me, and said it was almost buttoned up.

So I plan to pull the TH350 out Sunday to get my converter cut apart cleaned and checked out. I am waiting on a trans pan to come in also. So tentatively should have my trans done and back by mid/late next week. Hopefully installed by weekend.

Then on to some tuning. Should be confident to do some hero number pulls with a good transmission in it.

Well my TH350 with its bad thrust bearing is out and on the floor.

Sending my converter to get cut apart/cleaned/checked tomorrow. After recently having a buddy of mine tear up a brand new 427 LSX from a TH400 having high line pressure, he gave me some links for issues/fixes. Called shop doing my trans to make the appropriate mods to keep my trans from being a "crank killer" (converter feed orifice is .265, we are reducing it to .175/.200 to reduce pressure that tries to spit out the converter)

Next up on list is a driveshaft. I initially figured I would buy a new yoke and be done. Well as usual, its just not that easy it seems. My short shaft 400 had a bolt on yoke, I need a slip yoke and apparently since the tail housing is so short (4") there isn't the amount of spline slip as typical on my TH350. So considering a d/s with slip built in, the shop im using for this said my 2.75" shaft is a bastard and of course going to cost me more to source a new core shaft in 3" or pay him for new. I need to talk to him today and figure out course of action that will net me a correct shaft to handle projected power levels.

Picked up a D/S loop at a local swap meet yesterday for $20. Going to hang it from a 2x3 tube I plan to make a bolt in type cross member. Also considering building a tube trans cross-member for a lot more adjustability.

Picked up my trans and converter today.

Spent evening starting my crossmember build. got main section done, Trans needs to go up so I can see how im going to mount it to the frame, set the trans height/location etc.

Then I decided I wanted to get absolutely covered in sh*t. Truck underside has always been covered in a weird layer of grime/dirt not typical to what I normally see and its bothered me since I bought it. Today was the day to address it. So with purple power and scotch brite pad in hand I made some good head way with it. I may spend a bit more time and actually prep/paint it before I put trans back in.

I am picking up a new flexplate tonight after work (one I have I hogged holes out a bit more than im comfortable with)

So new flex plate gets installed, trans will be at least ready to go up to get a D/S measurement. So that can get built this week.

Got the trans mocked up in truck to get my D/S measurement and button up my crossmember.

I think it turned out pretty decent. Made end pieces 9" long and used factory holes in frame. I have 3" adjustment on trans mount slide. So if the trans ever changes it will just at most need some new holes drilled in frame to move it forward or back.

Snagged a flexplate to re-do the holes nicer than my original try. I used a pencil grinder this time and made a much less huge/sloppy hole. Make me sleep better at night lol

I will be calling the shop building my shaft today with the measurement. I will either have it back tonight or Friday. So that will be last piece to puzzle. Trans needs to get dropped back out, install flexplate, converter, might do some more clean up while im under it. Worst case scenario is be back together by Sunday. But shooting for doing it Friday night after work.

Looks good. What all did you have done to the TH400? What convertor did you use?
