1993 S-10 Project Update
Not sure which it will be. Since the cam that is in there is spraying good, I may just have to break down and get the next 2 or 3 sizes up in squirters from what is already there. I don't know. And since I am broke now, I wont know for a while. Next thing will be one of 2 things to get done. Either windshield or caltracs.. depends if I have any money or not. If I get money for the windshield, that is next and then the caltracs. Since I am dead broke and cant get the windshield, I may pull the springs off Saturday evening and have them ready to get the presswork done first thing Monday morning since that is when NAPA (they who have the 12 ton press) open up. I will be late for work, but I will have my springs ready for re-assembly with caltracs!! And since I am the boss of... MYSELF, I can do that!! LOL

Gotta go get the windshield and cover off the truck in the morning, load my stuff up on the trailer, and head for the track. This should be a good test of the Ford's cooling system towing the S-10 for 45 miles each way. Hopefully I don't have any issues. Despite Mom's '04 Silverado being a good truck, without a tow chain, and possibly two trips to bring us back home, it wont be pretty if this thing goes down..

3.08 open diff, slicks, no nitrous, all motor, turbo 350 manual valve body, NO WINDSHIELD...
And the Ford made the trip without a problem.
If it doesn't react well, I can go back to 31 on primary and see if leaving 35 on secondary might eliminate that slight bog when the secondarys open up.
I can say this.. I am RIGHT on target for what I was wanting the truck to be running. I have always said that I am only shooting for 8.50 to 9.00. I think changing to 3.55 gears in the rear will put me right where I need to be.
All in all, the truck ran fantastic except for one small problem. I started having what sounded like starting an engine with WAY too high of timing.. It would crank, but occasionally it would hit hard, and stop the starter cold. If I let off and try it again, it cranks up fine but sounds like a labor knock for just a quick second on startup, right before it is actually running at idle. Other than that, it never missed a beat and kept on flying every time I hit the gas. I would like to see it hit 8.45-48 consistently, on motor. I still have the nitrous kit on it if I want to run a faster class from time to time.
Unfortunately, because I was the only one concerned with how my truck was running, I did not get any videos. Maybe next time around..
I will eventually break down (when I get more money) and buy another gopro.
But I have a hefty sum of money I have to pay back first, plus get a windshield.
I was told today by a good friend of mine that when my S-10 launched "its a miracle he didn't drag the ground, it hooked that good".
Bear in mind, he was referring to the back bumper when the truck twisted up. No I did not pull the wheels. But if felt good having someone acknowledge how huge of a gain that truck made since last year.
his son Kris, who also races, was listening to the announcer say the time, and when he said the first time of 8.61, kris had to have him repeat it cause he thought he mis heard what was said.

The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
If I have managed to get any money to go racing next weekend, I am hoping this thing will be faster with a new set of plugs, and some premium gas in the tank. I checked the radiator after I was done racing and noticed that the water level was low, and looked rusty brown. So that will be getting changed also. Last thing I have to figure out is where I can route the cylinder head steam vent instead of having it plugged off. Since the engine does not run for long at all, usually only about 2-3 minutes from start to finish, I don't really think it will hurt anything if I just block it off.
I did find a glass shop to put in the windshield, but its $146 and they need 1 day notice to get the windshield.
If I could sell either my laptop or netbook, I would be set..
now I have to either order more, or figure out the size of nut that goes on the extra long ones I have and hope that I can get them on and still have threading left to tighten them down.
But, the good news is the springs are off the truck and tomorrow I go and get the rubber bushings removed and the caltracs installed!! FINALLY!!! Between getting that done and re-assembly, I get to install the MINI-SPOOL!!! YEE HAW TRACTION!!
After that, I will be finishing up mounting the nitrous bottle brackets into the bed, and putting the plate and micro-switch back on the intake, and also wiring up the control wire for the MSD box for the timing retard. And then change spark plugs. I have to dig through my stuff to find the small shot pills so I can start this out easy and hopefully not tear anything up.

Good news is I sold one of my computers.
Bad news is my truck is torn apart and til I get it back together I cant go get the windshield!! DAMMIT MAN!

I think I can refrain form spending the money for that long... day after tomorrow...

needing to possibly be moved back or a new hole drilled in the carb arm.... well I got to check it
out Sunday with a friend of mine and the carb actually IS opening all the way. Now I know where
to set the micro switch to activate the nitrous kit...
I didn't think I had that much left to do, but sheesh...
I still have to do the following:
Drain and refill radiator
Plug off or install fitting for steam vent
Check all fluids
Install fan control temp sending unit
And there will be more to come I am sure...

HOLY CRAP does that make a difference in how stiff the rear suspension is.
because of having to cut 2 of the u-bolts off yesterday, I had to re-use the long ones from the drop kit.
I got them put back on and had to cut almost 3 inches off in order to not have them
so long that I would be stuck using a ratchet wrench to get them on. And in doing that, I also
re-installed a 2 inch drop block with a pinion correction angle on each side so it lined up actually pretty good.
Should help with running closer to the 8.50 NA mark.
I have a 10 AM apt tomorrow to get the windshield installed.
I will basically be broke afterwards, but at least I wont have to
worry about my interior being destroyed the first time it rains.

on things today. Should be better weather tomorrow so I will more than likely go out and unload the truck and work on getting some more of my list completed. Primarily the nitrous bottle brackets and the nitrous plate. Getting all that put together. If I feel like messing with it, the mini-spool also. That will depend on if I will be laying in a mud puddle or mostly dry ground!! Since I will have to crawl under the truck to tighten down the bottle mount bolts, I may as well get the mini-spool done while I am under there.
I will post a few pictures up in the next day or two.
Let a friend drive it (who is almost 300 pounds lighter) 8.462
I hooked up the bottle and hit it about 70 feet out and ran an 8.068 @ 87.19.
According to the Robbie the robot nitrous calculator, since I was running a 55 and 47 pill, I had 116 RWHP gained.
Not bad for a stock 5.3, 3.08 gears on an open diff, and turbo 350 with manual valve body.
I have the spark plugs with me to change them tomorrow to the nitrous plugs. hopefully clean fresh colder plugs, premium gas in the tank, and I am hoping enough nitrous in the bottle for a couple passes will get me into the 7's. I am shooting for 7.85...
I have already had an offer to buy the truck for $4k cash..
