my jeep builds I decided to start a build thread so I would have a place to ask stupid questions 
the first one is a Jeep I am building for a buddy. he is having a 408 built by someone that is promising 600hp at the crank. we will see.
specs are 408LS, AX15,Atlas transfer case with 4:1 ratio, Dana 60 front locked with 5.38 gears and a 14bolt locked with 5.38 gears. I 3 linked the front and 4 linked the rear. I am expecting the motor the 22nd. first pic is how it sits now.
the second project is mine. Dana 60 front and sterling 10.5 rear. I have not decided on which gears yet. I picked up a 70k mile 4.8 and a 4l80e with a 241c transfer case for it. my first question is what turbos? I want to run small twins for packaging. I would like to start seeing boost around 1500 and be all in by 5500. this is the test bed for a rock bouncer chassis I am designing and building.

Packaging is my main reason. I can place a turbo wherever the chassis dictates. A blower I would have to build the chassis around. It is also easier to make motor size changes. I can swap in a 408 and change a turbo with very few other changes. A blower is not as easy to adapt for displacement changes. And I am more comfortable with turbos
finally got the motor for my buddies jeep. now I can get to work.

Looks good. Tell your friend to start saving $$ towards a replacement transmission.....the AX15 won't last long behind 600hp,
Have you run the sterlings before? That's what I chose for my YJ....haven't installed yet as I got sent overseas but hopefully will get back onto it next year.

I already warned him about the tranny. My first try with sterling. I have always used 14 bolts but I sure like the brakes. The later model 60s bring the beef.

posting some new pics in no particular order. this will be like watching Pulp Fiction but bear with me.
I welded a -8an steel 90 to the bottom of the stock pick up assembly and built a slotted pick up to try. so far so good.

tapped the rear steam holes 1/8 npt and plugged
tapped the front holes as well and the water pump and used -4 line to vent. I will get a pic soon.
plumbed the 5qt Kevco pan to a remote oil filter located above the skid plate
trans crossmember has been welded up and painted since.

underhood wiring pics. I had the alternator converted to one wire operation. I used the stock fuse/relay block for all power and relay needs so far. test drives so far have been interesting. under full power the front end comes up so far (14" of suspension travel) it is taking a little getting used to.
I still need to bring the rear up and I am looking at getting the front coil overs tuned. I may have to winch the front end down.
