Default Super cheap 84 C10 6.0 swap. LWB NOW SWB

I love the many low buck builds here, so I started my own, and its been going good so I figured Id share. I have been wanting a square body chevy for years, and I finally got one a month or so ago. Its an 84 LWB C10, it had a 350 in it with a 700r4. I really planned to keep that in it for the winter, but like a stupid idiot, I was working on it with the valve covers off, and dropped a bolt in it F**K!!! I know it probably would have just been in the pan, but I cant leave stuff like that. So out it came, and the swap began.

Heres the truck, it was real cheap because it was broken in half when I got it LOL

Really the bed being off in that picture is from the rotten bed rails, but I forgot to take a picture of it broken.

I used to see the truck everyday on the way to work, all bent, and I told my co-workers Id still fix it, and everyday we would say we need to find out who owns it. Well one day I found it on Kijji (canadian cragslist, way better No pictures, just info, so I looked under it, saw the rest of the truck was nice, and called him up.

I got it cheap, but not as cheap as I got a 2004 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 with the transfer case broken right off the tranny, and the front axle broken off the frame. It was a plow truck, and the shop quoted him $10,000 to fix it, so he let it sit. I offered $250, and snagged it. Then I pulled parts off of it and scrapped the truck.

So my cost so far(roughly):
Chevy c10: -$650
Chevy 2500:-$250
Scrapped 2500: +$500
350 sold: +$550
Misc truck parts sold: +$150
Bought Engine mounts and spacer for trans: -$220
F Body manifolds: -$100
Total= -$20

So I have $20 into it lol. I want to keep the rest of the build that cheap but well see, I hope to have under a G into it. I want to keep the stock EFI, and I plan to use as many parts from new trucks in the junkyard as possible.

I need to take some pictures of my engine and truck today, as I repainted the two tone, and cleaned up the engine.

Do you guys figure I should replace all the engines gaskets while I am at it, I know it would be a no brainer on an old engine with cork and paper gaskets.

Thanks for reading!

I would leave motor alone unless something leaking. I hope you kept engine wiring, gas pedal/tach box wiring harness, pcm. Alot of stuff on donor works to get swap into your project. Wiring info on LT1Swap.com

Thanks man, and yes sir I did. Well I forgot to grab the gas pedal... I did grab all of the harness minus the **** going to the tail lights. I think most of what I took off is garbage but I figured Id take it all.

Ok I forgot to take pics but I will now.

Much better then old faded black two tone I think..

Im picking up a core support today thats in nice shape, and I am waiting on my swap parts so I can swap it all in and get cracking on the wiring.

Just though too, would I need a throttle cable to be able to hook up the 700r4 kick down or is there another way with drive by wire?

I've done a c10 swap really cheap. I did an 87 stepside I got for $700. After motor and trans I had 2800 in it. Got 20 mpg and I daily drove it.

Cool

I see your using plates to get sbc mounts onto motor. You may have to unbolt frame mounts move up a bit. The width from frame mount to frame mount is different on motor than truck. Thats what I used on my skylark & had to move frame mounts do to thickness of plates thru it off.

When I finish the RX8 I'm gonna do another square body. I wanna find one with a gtg body and interior. Preferably a survivor or a clean one. Almost impossible to find one billy joe hasn't conceived 12 kids in and glued every piece of autozone chrome onto.

Ya I know how it goes. Im already wanting to LS my 88 Square body 4 door 2wd shorbed I put together from bunch of trucks. Currently its a 350 tbi 700r4 3:73 posi 12 bolt. I got my skylark running but not finished totally. More projects than money.
Truck is further along than pic but still work in progress.

Thanks dude, I want to clean wire wheel and paint the engine bay this week, so I will see about loosening them.

Cool crew cab too, I want to find a crew cab body to put on my diesel daily driver

I got the engine in yesturday. It seems to fit real nice. It was weird my 6.0 had transmission adapter like I bought already on it. I never looked at the tranny the came off of it, it was pretty broken where the transfer case mounted so I scrapped it. Anyways that made it easy to fit on the transmission.

I need to see if the transmission cross member fits still, and the driveshaft. This weekend I want to get that all bolted up, or see if it will.

Now I need to hit up the local u-pull yards for bits and pieces, and wire this thing up.

Yeah they are. I'm doing a K5 when I get back. It should only take a week or two from start to finish. I love how nearly everything works from a 99-02 and is all dimensionally dead nuts on the same. Literally the easiest and cheapest swap possible
