Default Any AWD cars that can fit an LS1?

just some idle thoughts: i love my T/A and i love hard launches, but with drag radials you can only launch so hard... unless you had them on all 4 wheels . can anyone think of a car(not truck)that could hold an LS1 and all wheel drive? i cant seem to think of any but maybe you guys could help me out .

The Australian Monaro (Pontiac GTO derives from it) has just been released with AWD and an LS1. Pretty cool, huh? This link shows the station sedan version. http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/...?modelid=22001

$53,000 . anyway i was thinking more along the lines of a project car,
and while i would never want to meet parish at a stoplight, i say no trucks because of the aerodynamics and huge, power robbing wheels... that, and im just not really a "truck guy".
the WRX's are what actually had me thinking that. they dont look like jacked up trucks and if they can be that fast with a little 4banger, imagine what they could do with Gods motor.

A Typhoon or Syclone is a little smaller, more aerodynamic, has F body size wheels, and the LS1 bolts right up to the AWD tranny.
Fab up the mounts, wire it up and go.

Typhoons and Syclones are S-10's right? what kind of ride height do they have? do they look jacked up like a 4x4 truck? that extra height kills aerodynamics. i looked on e-bay and didn't see and Typhoons or Syclones, they must be pretty rare huh?
and T-wrekz, do you mean the Aries that posts on here? i did a search of his posts but didn't see anything on this subject.

They are low. You can lower them even more very easily.

But Syclones come with awesome motors, I wouldn't screw one up. And they are expensive too.

I'd buy a clean 4x4 S10, get the AWD transfer case out of a Astro/Safari/Olds Bravada (the same case the syclone/typhoon uses) and swap the LS1 into that. Lower it and add some nice rims and tires, you'd have one awesome street machine. Tilt fiberglass front end for $500+ for crazy weight savings.

sorry for jacking the thread, but how would you go about getting a front differential for the s10? I think the astro vans are wider than an s10.

Use the stocker. Some guys are in the 9's with it on a syclone.

Remember an automatic turbo motor splitting the power between two axles delivers power differently than an manual 2wd.

The t-case probably is strong enough for high range on the street. But I wouldn't want to drive around in 4wd all the time. Might be okay for the track though.

And AWD is just cooler.

I've seen a owner's car at AED have a Ls1 in a Grand Am. I don't know how he did it, but he did. Check it out at www.aedcentral.com

i was lookin under teh hood of my bro's wrx adn i thin kyou can get it in there. teh boxer 4 banger has tons of room to spare. i am gonna have to measure out teh engine bay and see. i think something liek an LS1 powered legacy wagon would make a great sleeper

Just to add my $0.02 don't berate the AWD transfer case. I've been beating on mine for over 2 years now and it still 'hauls ***'.

Most dependable powertrain I have ever had and the Astro weighs in at 4780 pounds in street trim. It is a 'real' sleeper.

Don't know if an LS1 will fit in a WRX, but I bet a TA Performance Aluminum Turbo V6 will . I really like this idea. 4" bore block. 3.625" stroke. TA heads. Big cam. Big Turbo. Adj center diff like the STi, only make it rear biased!! Yeah. If I win the lotto, I am doing this .
