That looks fine. I used a quart of black rustoleum from Home Depot and painted it on with a brush. You can see pictures in my build thread. It turned out really nice and it's very durable.
I like the car. Good luck.

whats plans on wiring? throttle dbw or cable? speedo will need a conversion box or install electric speedo. I have to finish my first swap 76 skylark(L33 5.3 & 4L65E) its running but get back on it soon to finish details. I made a dash face put guages in it. wire car side to accept it now & mount pcm behind dash as its laying on floor. Got my 2nd started by collecting parts. 88 square body 4 door chevy 1/2 ton 2wd. 5.3/4L60E going in.

Finished cleaning the frame scuffed it, wiped it down with some prep all and sprayed it with some rubberized truck bed liner. Figured it would be easy to clean, touch up and wouldnt show the imperfections as much.

Also did the firewall, there was already some kind of protective black material that wouldn't come of so I decided it would look better all black.

Nice looking Cutlass. GM engineered the 307 for torque and fuel mileage. They served their purpose very well but weren't barn burners. The Olds 307 is based on an early 1960's design. It was a great engine for it's time but like you, I'm ready for the performance benefits of new technology that over 50 years of engineering development can provide. Keep us updated on your build.

The swap came with a harness I'm just going to rework it a little and I ordered a pre built relay/fuse block setup to connect chassis and acc. It will be a throttle cable setup, my wife has a DBW Chevy and I don't like the feel of it compare to a throttle cable. As far as speedo for now I'm just going to use an app on my phone that tracks mph via GPS, I plan on switching back to a 3 speed auto later on. I bet nobody expects to see an LS under the hood of the skylark, sounds pretty sweet you have a build thread for it?

Got a little work done on the motor today, stripped it down and cleaned it up pretty please how it came out. Had to degrease and wire brush a few spots but in all cleaned up easy.

Also got some things in the mail, some front end parts and a whole bunch of gaskets...

I have my mounts after I ordered the wrong SBC mounts and spohn mounts about three times, I didn't know there were tall/narrow and short/wide mounts and I ordered spohn frame pads that ended up needing f body mounts. Needless to say after some work with the grinder I got a combo that should work, hopefully Friday night or Saturday I'll get the motor mounted in the car.

dont look too bad in there. does the altenator clear steering box? I put headers on a 400sbc 200r4 in a 82 elcamino for clearance I got a straight tranny crossmember from 73-77 malibu or monte carlo. had to narrow it & redrill holes in frame but gave real good clearance from header collector.

The alternator clears with plenty of space, that cross member sounds like a good idea. I got a jegs double hump cross member. Headers have a few minor issues but I expected them to there f body camaro longtubes (speed engineering 1 7/8). Gonna put some of the accessories on today, and put new gaskets on the valley cover and paint it.

holley has a ac bracket that I think you benefit from. mounts that ac pump style from holes on front of head on passenger side, its like $140 on ebay. Im getting ready to order it for my truck conversion. just keep pecking away at it, it eventually get done. here a pic of skylark. I wish I painted motor before last putting in.
set far foward as oil pan allowed, tranny tail just clears floor tunnel.
