Looks good!

Is there enough room between the shock body and the axle tube to account for axle twist under power? Not sure how much it will move, but presumably some...just something to consider.

Made a permanent trans crossmember on the recommendation of the fab director. He said the one in the background "Looks like it belongs in a dump truck". Going to make sure it fits right before its all welded.

Thank you Ken!!! Still catching up on my posting from a few months ago. Started running exhaust from manifold to cross member. Bought a kit with several mandrel bends and just started experimenting. Gonna try to use these catalytic convertors and some good mufflers to knock the sound down. Shooting for quiet

Definitely the hardest side. Really pleased to have room around the booster and still off the frame as well. Probably will have some sort of heat shield here eventually.
1937 Ford Sedan-o57pvrw.jpg

Little more room on the passenger side.
1937 Ford Sedan-hf6lify.jpg

From there I made some hangers to hold the exhaust in place while I build around the bottom of the frame where I had to cut a section out. Now that the motor is out I can put the frame back on the rotisserie and build some frame notches. More soon....

Looking good. Are planning on boxing the frame any? Seems senseless not to. Keep up the great work.

Yes more frame boxing will definitely happen. Of course the front is done where the Mustang 2 is welded in, and a short section of the middle is done where the x brace cross member is tied in. Sort of waiting until the wiring and plumbing begins to see what makes sense on boxing other areas such as the rear. But yes your right might as well!

The challenge..... With the motor placed where everything fits perfectly, the exhaust manifolds end up about 1/4" above the frame where the black line is.
1937 Ford Sedan-te0lpts.jpg

For the top side. Made some plates to add strength where the frame will be carved out.
1937 Ford Sedan-wiaeyhp.jpg

For the bottom side. Pipe shaped for clearance around the 2 1/2" exhaust.
1937 Ford Sedan-ehlmy33.jpg

Added side plate for strength.

All the pieces...

Looks like this with exhaust installed. To be welded at a later time......

I'm getting ready to start boxing my 36 Frame. My hold back is trying to figure out what holes to keep , which ones to weld up and how to weld the cage nuts in.

You just have to plan several steps ahead to figure out whaich holes to keep and which holes to weld up. Look at the body and fenders and note what holes are used and mark them, you may need to do some mock up. As for cage nuts, you're better off welding a nut or nut plate directly to the frame, I welded mine solid, all the way around so there's no chance it can break off, then slightly open the holes in the body to make the holes line up. If a bolt breaks off years later, then you drill and tap it, and you're good to go, where as with a cage nut, if it breaks loose inside a boxed frame, then there's not much you can do with it.

Wayne that's the best thing about these forums is that everybody can learn things. I love reading about the challenges people run into on their builds and how they solve the issues. There are some really creative and talented people out there and I'm glad we get to follow the ones that take the time to post about their projects !!

Roothawg listen to Eric (ls1Nova71) because he has been there before, and he has ALOT of miles on the car he is probably referring to.

A little more catch up. A while back I posted a thread on quiet exhaust ideas. I'm hoping to do some highway cruising and be quiet enough for conversation, music, etc. I've driven my share of open header drag cars but now I'm old. I want cold A/C and some tunes . I compiled everyone's ideas from the quiet exhaust thread including my own and here is what I came up with. The LS3 will keep the stock exhaust manifolds and I will run catalytic convertors and some OEM mufflers. I looked at many GM mufflers but just couldn't find what I needed. I found some mufflers from a new Mustang GT. They are 2 1/2" center inlet and offset outlet.

I was a little concerned about getting the pipes and chrome tips out. I took my time with my grinder and dremel tool and was able to peel out what the factory put in there.

More exhaust stuff.... I want a system that I can take off and get ceramic coated in sections and put back together. I have to get the exhaust through some cross members so now is the time to decide how the sections will be connected together. I started with an oval, but then went to a circle. The circle was intended for V band clamps but I talked myself out of that. I'm now back to a larger oval, third time hopefully is the charm , and some 4 bolt flanges that will barely pass through the ovals I made this weekend.

Made some backing plates to get some strength back.

Took the frame to my welding buddy and he zipped everything up. Motor mounts, frame notches, exhaust pass throughs, rear cross member, etc. Thanks Bevis! Yep that's his real name !
Nice to be able to take it on the rotisserie and work on all sides.

Too bad some of the artwork had to be covered up with strengthening plates.
