Thank you sir! Yep any main load bearing points will get gussets. The pillars, rear section of the roof, the cowl, and the strut towers will all be gusseted to the cage.

After grinding down the remaining protective coating, I spread the main hoop legs so I could slide the whole cage back.

And then started back up with welding. I ended early tonight because of frustration. Took me a bit to get back into the groove but tomorrow is a new day.

Made some serious head wind today. Two and a quarter junctions left and that will complete the door portion of the welding.
A few of my favorites from today.

So before I got started with the main hoop X I figured I better weld in the base plates while I can still move the cage around. For a mediocre mig welder I'm quite satisfied with how the fronts came out.

Got the rest of the main hoop X finished up. It seems to complete the cage. I'm pretty stoked to be on the downward part of the battle.

Welding the cage to the base plates was probably my least favorite thing so far. They're not my prettiest weld but I ran it rather hot and penetrated well. Next cage I'm moving the door bars about 2 inches higher to make this portion of welding easier.

Tacked in base plates for the rear extending bars of the cage. They look small in the pictures but meet the 12 square inch requirement of the WRC handbook. I also took care of some would-be rust on the strut tower seams and C pillar seams.

Finished up the two lower strut tower bars.

The notches that meet the main hoop were particularly tricky to do.

In order to weld the rear stays they had to be removed from the car. It was nice to weld something without mimicking a gymnast.
![](http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160910/522db2782b9bbf2235df9ad4c85fb043.jpg)
While they were out it was much easier to weld the strut plates in.
