New Hooker 1968-72 A-Body LS Swap System Preview
#122
I've cut the floor to be able to fit the T56 in at the forward position and using that as a reference point I can tell you that the entire top of the tunnel and the base of the firewall will need to be rebuilt to get the T56 installed with the stock position brackets.

Not really concerned for my personal car as I can do the metal work but for customers who cannot perform the fabricated tunnel required.
Look forward to seeing photos.
Thanks!

Thank you for you're effort been a long time coming. Been dreaming about this since I was a teen. My first car 70 chevelle bought at 16 and still own it today at 48. Hasn't been driven since the age 19. Three year ago I enquired about this swap through your tech dept while trying to purchase your Ls cast iron manifold for my c/10 swap. Was informed at that time it was coming and now here it is how time flies. This is going to take the guess game out of everything.
Will the set back position allow for clearance for factory a/c cars? (Evap box).
You're cast iron swap manifolds should fit? I know the headers are the more popular.
So I would be using the 302-2 pan?
Thanks again for this effort, and can't wait to read about others using your product for there builds as I wil begin to collect parts now to begin my swap.

does the 4l60 or 4l80 fit better with the forward mount? have a friend with a 69 chevelle and they want a auto trans in it. and you said the 4th gen camaro front drive will fit no problem? are you developing a cross member to work with this setup?

Both the 4L60 and 4L80 will bolt right in using the forward position brackets. They are also the best choice to use in any installation where use of the stock A/C evaporator case is desired (any transmission). The 4L60 installs using the stock crossmember and the 4L80 installs using a new Hooker trans crossmember now in development.

Summit and Jegs are both well known for their customer service and I'm sure plenty of other Hooker resellers also offer similar levels of service...you'd have to check with your chosen reseller for any special discounts that may be available.

Trying to decide on pulling the trigger on these headers. looks like they aren't available at the moment...
here are some pics of my engine installed w/ edelbrock headers. which you can see are much lower than the (f body) oil pan and frame. I went with an aftermarket i shaft to clear the number on header pipe id tag.
i also posted some pics of before and after T56 transmission tunnel modifications. i think there's a thread on that already...
I picked the header for its exhaust donut style collector gasket and the flat finish vs chrome/ceramic coating the other manufactures were doing at the time. obviously the ground clearance is the issue Id like to address.
last pic is of the starter on the passenger side header. with the updated two long bolt starter the header has to be loose or removed from head to change out the starter.
You mentioned "1" set-back LS swap plates and old school mounts"
Im using a ls plate, small block poly mounts on the chevelle frame stand thats flipped backwards in bolt holes that are already in the frame. i believe they are the short style.
I read your comment on chevelles.com about the added clearance on the spark plug wires and other benefits. Thought Id mention it for the benefit of this thread. I luckily have been using factory wires with very close clearances. I have seen my friends running high temp boot protectors on their wires because they lay ON the headers.
