Default 1981 Chevy Malibu - LQ4 w/ T4 S475

I think I've made enough progress on my engine swap that it's time for a build thread. I'm in the process of yanking out the 383 stroker SBC that's been in the car for about 20 years in a couple different trim levels and swapping in a 2004 gen IV SBE 6.0L LQ4 and feed it with a Borg Warner S475 turbo w/ T4 flange.

Mock-up motor and our truck manifold headed to the turbo

I designed the bracket in SolidWorks and had a shop make it for me. It does well supporting the 40+ lb turbo

Crossover. We went back and tucked it up to the pan about another inch to gain ground clearance.

I'll have some more updates this weekend when I get back to working on it. I ordered a new 3" driveshaft, downpipe 4" pipe, we'll button up the cooling system and front accessory drive, and we'll be working on stripping down the wiring harness.

Its the stock truck upper hose, any 4.8, 5.3 or 6.0 truck will have the same one. We trimmed off the ends and made it fit the car, then spliced in the steam vent drain in the middle there.

I dig it. Was a 50/50 toss up to build a squarebody truck or a malibu. love the way those cars look. kindof a muscular boxy vibe.

Now the car has seen the street and the track, here are some pictures of the finished (as finished as a street /strip car can be) product. Made 10 psi on a 7 lb spring and pulled hard. I need to address an ignition problem because it is pooping and breaking up over 5000 RPM but other than that and the O2 sensor issue it's running well. Very happy with the finished engine bay.

Thanks. It's definitely rewarding having designed and built the whole combo in our garage on nights and weekends. There's countless hours in the build since March but the lessons learned outweigh the hours lost.

I got it from Ebay. It's a single piece, seems solid enough. You can search for "T4 flange to 3" pipe adapter" and it was $45 sold by HSMachine

NGK-TR6 with the stock gap. We're going to go back in and gap them all a little smaller, maybe .030" to start with and see if that fixes my popping/ misfire issue above 5000 RPM with load.
