Default 99 TJ Wrangler 4.8/nv3500 swap questions before i start

Decided the 4 cyl jeep engine was time to go so i picked up a donor vehicle with a low mileage 4.8/nv3500 and np261 t case
What is the simplest harness i can get away with? No a/c, stand alone. Plan to retain the jeep computer for everything else if possible.
Also i definately want to keep a 5 speed in it and dont want to spend a bunch. Should i stick with what i have or get something that will attach to the existing np231?
Any and all help appreciated, by the way i have looked at the pinout stuff but im not the greatest with wiring but i want to conquer this myself.
Thanks guys

Good luck with your build, I'm currently collecting parts for my tj, I'm using a nv3500 out of a an 4x4 s10 just about have the 8.8 axle ready
If you don't know, the transfer cases as a whole, are not swappable ,the gm trans to case pattern 5 bolts, the jeep is 6.
No prob, just use the gm transfer case , but you will want to convert the front driveshaft yolk from slip to bolt on.

Have you checked out the 5.3 Jeep thread on Pirate 4x4? Lots of good info once you scoot past all the ball busting posts over there. There's a few options for the TC,I used the front half of a S10 231 with the rear half of a Jeep 231 along with a Terraflex SYE for the Jeep VSS as originally I was going to try to run the guages off the Jeep PCM.I ditched that idea as there seems to be limited success getting all the guages reading all the time, next swap I'll be using the JB Conversions SYE with the GM VSS. There are also several different 4L60E/700R4 TC adapters with different combination bolt patterns front and rear.

Hopefully I didn't speak out f terms, I was assuming your transfer case had a slip in front yolk as most independent front ends do because the drive shaft doesn't move up and down with the front axle,

Nice project! The output shaft on the 4 cyl trans to t/c is a 23 spline if I recall. The 6 cyl is a 27 spline. Check with Novak Ent. they have good info on the stock 5 speed. They do LS conversions using the stock 5 speed. Like anything else, it depends on how hard you are on equipment and your expectations! SloCaddy knows this manual trans stuff better that me! He's using a nv3500 for a reason. They are strong enough and still light compared to the nv4500. The 231 t/c should hold up fine. Good luck!

Exciting build! I've been entertaining the idea of picking up an XJ to swap.

I have a 5.3L and NV3500 in my 240SX. I'm using the stock ECU and fuse block. If you have the donor vehicle and use the fuse block, you only need three wires to run the engine (battery 12+, key switched 12+ and the fuel pump signal)

This has been my bible:

http://www.lt1swap.com/2000harness.htm

That site has just about anything you need to know about truck engines and the stock ECUs. You'll need to find someone local who has HPTuners or EFIlive or something like that so they can unlock the VATS (vehicle security) on the ECU otherwise it will only run for a few seconds.

So Novak told me today that the gm nv3500/np261 combinationis too long and would be best to find an ax15? Anyone have some good input?

I would look into a np241 case out of 80's early 90's (square body ) s10, that will give you a bolt on front yolk, and you can get a "super short slip yolk eliminator" for the rear drive shaft, I think it gains you 4/5 inches.

Now, learn about combining the front half of the gm case (this is what will get you a bolt on front yolk) and the back half of jeeps case and get ssye kit for it, there is a newer one that has a smaller speed sensor that will make your factory Speedo work.
I think the case you have now is holding you back
