Default Rockers ?

Driving around today and thought I heard some clicking.. thought it might be a loose rocker.. but I had planned to change oil today anyway.

So I found these in the drain pan while doing the oil change, they might have fell out of the oil filter while draining it or from the oil pan. Not sure when the fell into the drain pan. (about .250" x .065").

(there is always some junk in the pan, as it is left outside, they might even had been there before I started, asking the kids if they did anything that might have left them).

My thoughts at this point is that a rocker might have failed, will remove Rocker cover soon.

But the question is.. are these bearings the size of the rocker bearing, as I have not taken a rocker apart before.

If they are.. I will inspect the damage.. do you think if the rockers are still in good shape, to you think a CompCam Trunion Upgrade can be used to savage the rockers ?

Those do look like rocker needles.
And yes the comp trunion kit can fix that issue.

Here is the link for them

Thanks.. I am aware of the kit... currently looking for a good price on the net.. Amazon Prime is like $129 for the kit.. looking into a new full rocker set to see what cost they are as for some extra $$.. might as well do a upgrade on the rocker anyway ..

I see Jegs has a set of 8 for $99 (1/2 a set)

Thanks..

Looks like the Comp Cams 1677-16 might be a good upgrade and a nice price..$385 from Comp Directly ! w/ 1.8:1 Ratio, uses stock hardware.

Youd want to make very sure your springs would handle the extra lift.

Yes.. was just figuring that out.. 99' LS1 engine/heads with LS6 springs.. LS6 cam with 1.8's would be about .583 (02' cam). You think the LS6 spring can handle the extra lift ? (researching now). Open to feed back..

If not.. will just do the Trunion upgrade.

Ls6 springs wont handle that lift and they sure wont handle any heavy rocker either. Not enough pressure.

just do the trunnion upgrade on your stock rockers... this is a good kit w bronze and a proprietary oiling design

http://www.straubtechnologies.com/ls...trunnion-kits/

btw those needle bearings can wreak all sorts of havoc internally so watch for odd drops in oil pressure and such... there are a ton of them per rocker so its likely you have more internally.

Well.. it was #6 intake that failed....

Inspected the valve spring area.. couldn't find any damage, found a few more needle bearing on top of two head bolts. Hopefully the rest are in the bottom of the oil pan or flowed out with the oil change. might have to flush the oil a few times ...

But will take that one rocker apart to inspect it for damage. If ok, then a Trunion upgrade will happen..

But, Got a PM from dmracing about a offer for a set of rockers that are upgraded. Waiting to hear back from him on details on his rocker setup.

That is an interesting failure since it looks like the retainer piece broke rather that just coming loose. Hopefully you don't have any geometry/interference issues. If the bore of the rocker looks okay you will probably be fine reusing it with the trunnion upgrade.

I went with the Harland Sharp version. There are a few differences in the design that I wrote about here:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...eview-how.html

Which car was this on? Are you going to upgrade both of them? I can't remember how many rollers there are, but I would count and try to figure out if you've found all of them.
