Default Gen 4 rotating assembly in gen 3 engine

Just finished building a 2001 5.3 with 2007 gen 4 58x rotating assembly for a turbo foxbody/th400 combination. I wanted to the beefier rods and no shop around me balances rotating assembies, so I used the gen 4 crank too.
I've got a friend who accidentally order a 58x dragon slayer crank for a build in a gen 3 engine and had to use the lingenfelted converter box. It's been a nightmare with startup problems. I don't want that mess.
We've been trying to brain storming ways around it with using an e38 computer and changing the throttle body to drive by wire.
Question: is it possible to use a gen 4 timing gear, cover, and sensor on the gen 3 block? And possibly drilling the side of the block for new style knock sensors, then using a gen 4 harness into the e38 pcm? I know it's a lot of hassle but not as much hassle as we've had with that converter box.

is it just that easy? Won't it need to be balanced?

No it wont need to be balanced. The reluctor wheel does need to be indexed. there is a special tool for that.

Is it possible at this point to purchase a new factory GEN 4 crank with a 58x already on it? Aren't many of the cranks interchangeable?

I know the cover, cam gear, and sensors need relocated, but as far as the crank goes, could it be as simple as dropping in a new GEN 4 crank with the right wheel?

With all that said, is there any reason a stock Gen 4 crank w/ 58x wheel shouldn't fit?

Like one from a 2010 Silverado 2500?

Depending on what it came out of vs what you are putting it in to it may need balancing.
That is about it.
