Any thoughts on what color you're going with?

So I am still on the fence. I used to have a M3 that was Imola Red and I loved the color. Because of that I was thinking about going with a like a gloss lipstick red (see below).

However I have always liked the thought of a very deep and dark blue. Something like the Cosmic Blue color below.

Also I was toying with doing a wrap, but the current paint that is on the car is in really bad shape. When I say really bad it looks like the previous owner painted it with a brush, and you can chip the paint off with your finger nail. Because of that I would have to remove all the loose paint and fix the dents before applying a wrap, and at that point I might as well paint the entire thing.

I have some time to make up my mind, and the next item on my list is to build the exhaust. All of my exhaust parts showed up yesterday so I plan to spend some time in the garage tomorrow getting everything tacked up, and if possible welded out.

Mazda and Lexus have some reds now that really pop. Looks like Lexus calls theirs Infrared (they put it on their coupes), and Mazda's is Soul Red Crystal Metallic. GM had a color that they called Red Line on the 1st gen CTS-Vs - my brother had one, I thought the color was awesome, almost bought on that color myself but the dealer was playing games so I ended up with my Stealth Gray. Anyway, looks like on other models it was called Sport Red (WA964L).

I thought about doing a dark blue on my Fox Mustang a numbers of years back. I ended up going with a dark grey, but if I had gone blue, it was going to be Lexus Black Sapphire Pearl Metallic. I don't know if they still use that color, but it was popular back when I was looking for ideas in the early/mid-'00s. It's darker than that example you posted, can look black in low light, but when the sun hits it the blue really pops.

I found it helpful to wander around car dealerships looking for colors I liked. The computer screen or a color chip in a catalog doesn't always do justice to how a color will look on a car. Obviously that doesn't help if you're planning on a non-OEM color.

I have been making progress getting a lot of little things done on the car. The biggest thing is I got a base tune and the car starts and idle's great now. I have been driving the car around my neighborhood a little, and all of the engine vitals look great (temp, oil pressure, etc). I need to knock out a few more items, and get the car aligned before I take it further away from the house. Here is a quick video after a short drive.

So a quick update. I have driven the car out of the neighborhood, and down some country roads. I don't want to go to far since it doesn't have a windshield, seat belts, any working lights, and up until a few days ago no hood haha.

Here is a quick video from the last test drive. The car feels strong, but I have yet to really lay into the pedal.

Right now I am wrapping up a few little odds and ends, and getting the body to a point where I can start getting it ready for paint.

I installed a new coolant overflow tank since the last one I made was wayyyy to small. This one has been working great so far.

I also picked up a new hood, a pair of clean doors, and a M3 bumper. The hood was a PITA to get mounted and aligned by myself, but it is on there, and in good working condition. The bumper is just loosely laid on the car while I am waiting on the hardware to come in. I also have a set of amber turn signals, and pair of seat belts on the way as well.

Next items are side skirts, and then stripping the old paint, and getting the car ready for body work. That will be a good winter project.

Not a ton of progress lately, but I have been working on the wiring and some other odds and ends. I was able to get all of the BMW Gauges to work (Fuel, Speed, Tach, and Temp). Below are the pin outs if anyone else is doing this kind of swap.

I have been driving the car more, and it is feeling good. Next I plan to wire up all the lights on the car, and get a proper tune done. That will basically leave paint and body for the winter time.

Hahaha that was when the headers dumped out right under the drivers seat. It was very loud at that point.

Quick update since it has been some time. I just got the car dyno tuned last week, and make 304hp to the wheels. Everything held together, and the tuner said it all looked good so I can't complain about that. I haven't been able to see how the car drives after the tune due to the weather, and throwing my back out.

I have been doing a few small odds and ends putting off the wiring the body. I made a rear strut tower bar for the car, and plan to start on one for the front shortly.

I am also finally getting around wiring the body. Started to pre-wire the the relay/fuse box, and made a small stand to mount everything up.

Next steps are to get a windshield put in the car, finish up the body wiring, and then get the car registered and ready for the road by mid April. Unfortunately over the last four years of owning this car I have moved three times and somehow I have misplaced the title for the car and can't find it anywhere. I am now going through the process of wading through the paper work to now title the car in my name......wish me luck haha.

Quick update. I finished the body harness, and got everything mounted. The back of the car is all wired up, and everything works. I started to pull the main loom into the engine bay, and should have the front of the car wired up before the end of the week. After that I will just be waiting on the title, and then the plan is to get on the road!
