Default Ticking sound after trying to start swap?

After trying to start my swap it’s making a ticking sound when I stop cranking. Also after the 2nd attempt a puddle of oil poured out from above my oil filter where I’ve got the adapter for a mechanical gauge.

It makes that noise when you are not cranking it? That's a new one to me. I wouldn't try to start it anymore, does it physically spin over when trying to crank it?

Yes. It starts as soon as I turn the key on. Did a little troubleshooting and both bank’s injectors are getting power but the passenger side coils are not getting power for some reason (this side is relocated fwiw).
I traced its pink wire to my BP fuse box which has a red wire going directly to a power junction terminal which makes no sense to me.

I assume so since the belt and all accessories are installed.Ive had the pan off and I’ve replaced the heads on this engine and all seemed fine. The engine rotated over by hand just fine also.

Bump. Someone else has had to experienced this considering all the ls swaps that have been done.

I can't see the video, but the IAC clicks when you turn the key on.

Appreciate the feedback but it’s a consistent light hammer-like “tick tick tick” that starts when the key is turned off directly after cranking.

What does your oil pressure gauge show when this happens?
Do you have the gasket in between the pan and that little plate above the filter?

I would either unplug ALL sensors, or unpower the harness and crank it again to rule out electric oddities. Make sure nothing in the harness has power.

I used another computer to listen to the noise. Is this an automatic car? It almost sounds like the flexplate or trans pump.

The adapter does have a thin gasket that it came with.
No it’s a 4 speed manual car. (DN 4+3)
I’ll have to check the oil pressure gauge again but I wouldn’t think it would reflect anything since this happens when I turn the key off.

My only other thought was it could be the starter although idk why it only happens when I stop cranking and turn the key to the off position.
Ive got another ls1 car in the garage so I can swap starters or other parts to aid in troubleshooting.

My thoughts exactly.
Swapped starters and although I only tried cranking once-no weird sound afterwards.
FWIW that starter was the original from my ‘02 T/A with 116k miles. Never had any issues with it.

My 98 LS1 used to make a similar noise. I always thought it was the lifters bleeding down or something. Never had a problem with it though. Not sure it's the same thing though.

Have you tried isolating the location the noise is coming from? Like is it coming from the driver side or passenger... very odd

Sounds like something in the intake. Is that drive by wire? Try unplugging the IAC and throttle and see if it still happens.

Yes DBW set up-tac module and pedal are matched.
sounds like it’s coming from the intake or center of the engine. I swapped starters last night and it didn’t do it but I’ll double check this evening.

Mine is doing the same thing after I shut my engine off. It's not as rapid as yours, but it gives a series of ticks then stops. I'll try to capture a video. I haven't been able to figure it out either.

Mine's definitely coming from the same area, under the intake, near the rear of the engine. It's a 2005 SBE 5.3 (gen 3 w/ gen 4 internals).

To me it sounds like the starter bendix gear is activating (sticking) and hitting the flywheel? Try a different starter or check the wiring to the starter?

My setup is shutoff from a kill switch so the starter isn't getting any power when I shutdown. Plus I would think the noise would be more.. violent sounding? It honestly sounds like metal contracting after being heated up.. however it occurs even when it's cold. It's odd. Everything looks good sensor wise on my end. 14afr when idling, 180 degrees. The only thing I could think of is I'm not running an intercooler and I'm using a Holley Hi-Ram.. so I considered it could be excessive heat. But it looks like OP is using an LS1/6 intake and having the same problem.. so who knows.
