Default LS swap power steering question

Sorry if I posted this in the wrong group. I did a LS swap LQ9 into a 57 Chevy truck. I bought a aftermarket gear box for my truck. Unfortunately the pump will not work with the LS power steering bracket. The two pumps are very similar but I am having trouble with the power steering after it warms up. Once warm it doesn’t want to work. I’m thinking that this is a pressure issue for the gear box because I can rev the engine and the power steering works fine. Can I simply swap out the orphis on the back of the pump either with the one that came with the other pump or a different one? Or do I need to do something completely different? Thanks for the information

If the assist comes back after an increase in rpm then the pressure relief valve is stuck in the pump.

It’s supposed to have a spring behind it correct?

Yes, there is a spring behind it. But the valve can get stuck from debris in the system or if there is housing wear then the valve can get stuck.

Okay well the pump is new so I’m not sure. I’m going to take it off and back apart and see if I see anything. I’ll keep this thread updated all the way through just in case someone else runs into this same problem. I really appreciate the replies

I took the pressure side line back off and then removed the fitting. I could push in on the valve and it would come right back as if there is a spring behind it. So it didn’t feel like it was stuck so I put everything back together filled the reservoir and fired up the truck and nothing. I might as well not have power steering because it’s not even trying and there’s no noise from the pump. Maybe I got a bad pump? This is really getting frustrating.

Where did you get the pump from?

Thanks,

Okay so I’m not sure what the problem is but I took the pump off and returned it to O’Reilly’s and got another. I installed the pump filled it with fluid and drove it. It worked perfectly, turned the wheel both ways with one finger. Then it starts to warm up and it slowly gets harder and harder to turn until it quits working all together. So anyone have any ideas or if maybe I’m doing something wrong.

Does it need a pulley size change to speed the pump up a bit?

Might be an air leak on the return side causing aeration .

Okay so it’s been solved. GM power steering pumps are not all the same even though they look identical. So the mistake happened at O’Reilly’s. They sold me a pump for a hydro boost system. Although it did have an extra return line which I just blocked off, I assumed that it would have the same pressure. It does not and this was the problem. When I took the pump back a different employee looked up the part I had and noticed that it wasn’t correct. Even though the correct part was approximately $30 more the manager said that it was their fault for giving me the wrong part and so they didn’t charge me anything to swap them out. That really shows me some class when the parts store owned the mistake and then made it right. The main thing is that my classic truck is fixed. Future note for anyone else who is having problems with their power steering on a GM vehicle is to make sure that you have the correct pump. There is very little to no difference between the two pumps on the outside but they do have different pressures. I would like to personally thank Ls1tech.com for providing the forum to help correct my problem and also to all the people who helped me fix this issue. Thanks guys I really appreciate it. This will surely be my go to website for any mechanical problems I have with my LS powered 57 Chevy truck. Here’s s
