Default 6.0/4L60e swap 64 Chevelle

Figured i'd start a thread for my 64 Chevelle LS swap. My 64 has a low mileage 350 crate motor/700R4 only 1800 miles after body off resto. (drivetrain is going in another car) Here's my starting point-
6.0/4L60e swap 64 Chevelle-wf6sfp2l.jpg
6.0/4L60e swap 64 Chevelle-iqbsmiwm.jpg

6.0 combo
6.0/4L60e swap 64 Chevelle-4cw6itkl.jpg

Picked up a complete pull out 6.0/4l60e from one of my buddies from an 02 Denali, low miles.

Plans are-
Holley motor mounts- bought
Holley 302-3 oil pan- bought
Brian Tooley stage II cam kit- bought
LS6 intake setup- bought (no throttle body yet)
ICT alt/PS accessory mount- bought
Cheap mid length headers for now. May go twin turbo later.
Holley Terminator X control system
TCI 3000 stall convertor- bought
Fuel system (still researching what I want)

I'll post updates as I move along. Waiting on a bunch of parts still. Gonna work on it as parts come. Been working from home for the last few weeks, so I have a flexible schedule!

Looks nice. You sure that’s a 4L60? Normally 4L80 behind the 6.0. I have a 60 behind my 6.0 but it came out of a 4x4 with a 80

It was originally an 80, but I swapped it for a 60.

Gotcha’. The way you worded it I thought they came together. I did the same thing. The 60 is pretty tight in my 67. I didn’t want to hack the floor for the 80.

Motor is getting close to being done. cam and springs installed, Holley 302-3 pan installed, accessory drive (ICT billet turbo mounts close to block) with F-body water pump and power steering unit, and intake and fuel rails buttoned up. Next up is motor mounts and headers.

You got it nicely detailed! Gonna look like it grew there! The accessory drive looks good. I like how all is tucked in close.
Carry on!

Thanks G! Had to make it look nice, with all the time and $$ I have into it. I did the tucked in accessory drive because of the twin turbo set up I plan to do later. This drive system was designed for turbo clearance.

If you haven't come to a fuel system decision yet......for what you're gonna be making power-wise, I have found that a 255lb/hr pump and stock LS3 (42lb) injectors work absolutely great. Unless....you're gonna built a system for the Turbo set-up.

BTW.....you did update your fuel tank for a fuel-injected set-up....yes?

I have a bone stock 01 GMC 1/2 ton "C3". (That was the precursor to the Denali.) It has a 6.0L/4l60e drivetrain from the factory...

(Thread hi-jack off)

I have not done the fuel system yet. I found a kit from CPP that has new tank, pump, vette regulator and all the plumbing hardware. Looks like I'll go this route and CPP is only 2 miles from me. Thanks for the info!

Wow, that has to be super handy having CPP 2 miles away! They have a lot of nice stuff.
Not to speak of the potentially mortal damage to your bank acct! LOL

Yea, for sure! I bought the fuel system from them today. New tank, internal pump (255 lph) and all plumbing hardware.

Started the swap today. The 350 is ready to come out, but waiting on a few parts before I drop the LS in.

Finally got some parts and time to work on the swap. Pulled the engine/trans

Ran the harness thru the firewall
6.0/4L60e swap 64 Chevelle-hkjt5nrl.jpg

Had to figure out a place to mount the ECU. This Holley unit is fairly big due to trans control and optional DBW but I'm going with cable throttle body. Best spot was in the glove box so i can also store the handheld in there.

6.0/4L60e swap 64 Chevelle-acc3mryl.jpg

Also got the gas tank, sending unit and fuel pump. Working on that this week.

Gonna try to get as much done as I can this week and get the motor set in place this weekend. Still a ton of stuff to do!

I was able to put the motor in yesterday. The clearance is super close with the 4l60 when I installed it. Had to creep it in a little at a time. Dirty Dingo slider mounts let me set the motor where I wanted it for better trans clearance but the trans still hit the tunnel and oil cooler lines were so tight, I snapped the AN fittings during install. I ended up cutting the tunnel for more clearance and access to the trans cooler fittings. I figured cutting the floor and making a cover was better than pulling the motor to pound the floor because of how tight it was during install. Drive angle is currently at 4 degrees so ill shim the trans mount a bit and be where I want.
