Nevermind, I totally misread portions of your post, been a long day for me, my lazy brain kicked in and just focus on the pictures lol. I didn't realize you are using a 5.3 you already owned. That changes everything of course.

I'm really looking forward to how you approach the hot side. That is always interesting to me since it can be done in so many different ways.

Maybe I missed it or maybe I'm obtuse, but what is the turbo 5.3L build going in?

He just swapped the 5.3 out of his Cougar. The turbo 5.3 is going in his GTO.

So he's not going to use the LS3 for the GTO posted throughout this thread now?

lol. I thought the same thing once he mentioned turbo 5.3L. I had to look back as I missed it before.

I’m excited to see what he does. I love his attention to details

Truth be told, this project is pretty overwhelming. I am delving into new territories for me and I find myself questioning every decision I make. I've never had a hot rod with an automatic transmission, but I knew that for a turbo build, that would be the right choice.

Having said that, I also have trust issues with vendors. I tend to go with vendors that I have dealt with in the past or that have been referred to me by friends that I trust. This was the case for choosing a vendor for the 4L80e. I went with Redline Powertrain in Batavia, IL. My good friend, BA, had a 4L80e built by them and is very happy. The owner of Redline is Carl, and he is clearly passionate about what he does. I like that.

Carl listened to what I was doing with the car and suggested a list of components. I know there are some upgraded billet bits.

He assured me that this trans will handle the power that I want to make and will be super reliable.

^^^^^^ Good stuff! I too appreciate having good communication with the powers that be of any company doing work for me. Reading here about you getting EXACTLY what you want and need in a costly component is very encouraging and refreshing.
I have never liked the cookie-cutter approach to selling stuff that usually needs a little configuring to make it right for the application. I'm afraid that method has gotten all too common.

Correct. The GTO is getting a built, boosted 5.3L. I should have just bought a LSx376B15...

I've been researching that LSx376B15 myself...if I wasn't such a broke ***, I definitely would like to try one of those.

My reasoning for not going with the LSx376-B15 was that the iron block adds an extra 110 pounds. The weight already is adding up with the turbo related parts and, in my case, the additional weight from the 4L80e.

This will be great when you get it altogether. All that power with the suspension upgrades, this car will be a blast!

Oh yeah, I get that. These A-bodys of ours have a terrible "engine forward " bias...

i thought you had a tkx already? did you sell it?
the choice of going auto in my stick wagon has been gnawing at me, i have myself convinced if i go with the tkx (currently AR5 which sucks) i will be happy, but the auto is extremely temping for so many reasons.

Yes, the TKX got sold. With a heavy car and big power, I felt that the 4L80e was the best choice for reliability.
