Swap into a 69
any tips from those that have done the swap? Would love to put a manual in too but trying to do this on a limited budget as a side project.
There are quite a few companies that make motor mount kits now, you may need a new tranny crossmember. I think Lokar sells a pedal assembly for manuals and autos.
Im not sure if the bellhousing fits the transmission hump or not? a little googling should help on that one. Id go through our conversions thread and view other folks builds. LS swaps in older Fbodies are very common now, so theres a ton of info out there and companies making it simple on the DIY hobbiest.
Im doing this currently to my 71 Camaro, but its a full resto mod so its a bit more complex than just a motor swap. Its getting a updated suspension and 6.2L and a 6 speed. but most of the above covers what you would need.
My last couple of LS swaps I used the Tank's Inc EFI gas tanks. They can supply the sender and fuel pump. They bolt right in. I use a C5 fuel filter regulator. Only use Wix or AC Delco. -6 SS fuel lines.
Lokar throttle cable. I have used the Speed Engineering headers on a couple of LS swaps. They fit well. I know they are China made but I don't have cash for $1200 headers.
Use the 2000 Camaro front accessories. Use a LS swap radiator. Makes hose routing easier. Intakehoses.com for the intake tubing.
A basic AN6 lines from tank to rails will be simple if you know how to assemble AN fittings
Pro tip: I recommend a new/reman PS box. Of the 4 1st gens Ive done, 3 have blown seals out of original boxes with new PS pumps. That's not an easy replacement when headers are already installed
