Default LS1/6 Speed Trans. Crossmember Just Completed

Attached are some pictures of the crossmember I just installed in my 69 Camaro:

1) I used the stock crossmember instead of a Turbo 400 because it looked stronger and had a flat area for straight cuts

2) I basically purchased some 1/4" stock from Lowes (12" x 4") and welded these to the sides of the original crossmember. I made two welds with the last one extra wide for better penetration on both pieces. I also added two extra gussets on each side for additional strenght

3) I designed it for a three piece bolt together to ease installation and removal again using some existing 3" "C" channel with 1/4" plates welded to each end. The stock LS1 rubber mount was also used.

4) Painted them with Eastwoods Gloss Chassis paint. I used Gray Zero rust with a clear coat for the bottom floorpan

The end result turned out very nice and the cost was minimal!

Thumbs up

69LS1SixSpeed,

thats a very nice design! And thanks so much for posting, I was just about ready to start fabricating my cross member and was mulling over different ideas and I think I'm now going to go with your design.

Good eye....I don't have the MAF attached up yet as it's just in "mock up" stage at this point. I plan on using the stock LS1 radiator and fans and hope there is enough clearance to fit the split air cleaner tubing in front of the radiator bracing.

Purchased off Ebay for $75 and the quality of the part is outstanding! The tube is aluminum which I really like because of no future rust issues. Let me know if you are interested in this item and I'll look up the site for you.

Let me know if you need any additional information on this fabrication on the crossmember. Glad I could help you out with another possible option.
