Hee there,
Is there any provision for gear inndicator lights @ the PCM?? (P-R-N-OD-D-L1-L2 isn't it?)
I have a 700r4 console shifter conversion and I will be running a LS1 with a 4L60E. I allready made the dash with all the indicators I want and figured out the connections
But now I would like to have gear indicator led's in the center of my console shifter. Is there any provision for that @ the PCM or 4L60E??
Which and What wires to hookup?
How to make it work with led's?
I hope you wiring goeroes can help me out.
Thanks
Peter

dakota digital makes some nice indicators that you program yourself.
A variety of sizes and colored leds.
Very simple hookup.
In the photo I added is a single indicator from them.
It's silver and just below the speedo, to the left of the original jag indicator

They're at www.dakotadigital.com
The kits are made to hook up at the transmission lever but they easily adapt
to the inside shift lever location.

Thanks I saw those before, but I want the same style as the dash indicators I have(square led's flush in a panel.
I know there are some indicator adapters from different brands, but all very $$$$.
Isn't there anyway to get those signals out of the pcm or trans, it is only for some 1,6 volt led's...
thanks
Peter

this is what I also found there:
Signals that come from the 4way wires from the trans.
Park Rev. Ntrl. O.D. Drive 2nd 1st
Signal A GND GND Open Open GND GND Open
Signal B Open GND GND GND GND Open Open
Signal C Open Open Open GND GND GND GND
Signal D GND Open GND Open GND Open GND
Anyway I put something togheter myself?

a 5 volt dc regulator
Each NAND gate will drive one gear indicator
Transistors to drive leds
Pull up resistors?

Thanks great info, form what I can make out of it.
so there are 5 NAND output gates, which will be the 5 ground wires for the led's?
(what is NAND?)
and 2 input ground wires from the chassis to the gates?
or ?
What to hook the led's with or on?
Thanks
Peter

So for Park led, you would connect line A and D to the inputs.
Need to get back to work, so try an internet search on NAND gate and see what you get and / or visit your nearest hobbyist electronics store. If you need further info, let me know.

You would need two chips and use 7 out if the 8 gates.
You have now exhausted my design capability, hoped this helped.

Thanks, I will look in to this. I knew it was possible, withouut spending $70 or more.
I will ask the radioshack for help, any more to know for that?
Thanks for you help

One more question, what is the output of the transmission? is it 5 volt allready or is it just 12 volt?
If it is 12 volt, Do I need a 5v regulator for each trans output wire?
Thanks
Peter

If sized properly, the 5 volt regulator can feed all of the circuitry. You will need some sort of voltage reduction resistor from the gate output to the led to drop the voltage from 5 volts to what the led will handle.

Thanks, I am almost complete as far as for parts.
I can't test it because I dont have any wiring yet.
NAND's are 5 volt, I have some 7805 volt regulators one for each transmission signal and one for the led's, plus a 4072 OR for the drive indicator. I also have some led's and resistors they advised me at the radio shack.
Now I only have to find out what the input pins for all parts are, how to wire it and what the output voltage is on the trans wires???
so any input is still welcome
Thanks
Peter

This should be a starting point http://www.national.com/design/. Doesn't radio shack include the pin outs in their packaging? They also should sell a reference book listing all the pin outs.

I am living in Holland, I say radio shack, but it is our kind of applience store, just a local seller, not much knowlegde there.
I allready downloaded some pinouts from the net.
thanks for the link, lot's of info.
Do you also know what the output voltage is for the trans?
Thanks
Petter

Petter,
I think output voltage of the transistor is controlled by Vcc - you have exhausted my knowledge of electronics. Unfortunately, I design buildings not electronic things.

Thanks, I was confused, the trans outputs are 'open' or 'GND'
I am now soldering something together, if it works I will post a full how to on it.
until now I paid $20 on parts and learned a bit.
Let you know
Thanks
Peter

Ok, I soldered it. It works like a charme, thanks for your help guys!
Here is the wiring diagram I made:Shifter Indicator Lights Wiring Diagram for 4L60E trans! (1mb)
Now up to make myself a panel, for the led's that will goes inbetween the shifter.
I will post pics as soon as I have if painted(march or something
)

This is exactly what I'm chasing but the link isn't working (understandable given the post age)
Any chance you still have a copy you can post?
It looks like all the info is here to do it, but after my custom dash build my brain hurts and if the hard work is already done...
![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
I want to use maybe a single LED display to show P/N/R/D/3/2/1 if I can, but would be happy with an LED light for each .
