I bought one on ebay i forgot the name of the company though, I can tell you it tom, it was only 40 bucks. It worked for a while but for some reason it doesnt work any more, but I think that its not the adapters fault.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I had a question on why it wasnt working....I turn on the car and then after I turn it on the tach signal dies and the needle goes down to zero and does nothing. I checked the wires for power while the car is running and there i no power comin from the tach wire from the pcm and theres none comin out of the adapter obviously and the ground and power attached correctly. Anybody have any ideas?

nope.. its in the software though, just not anything you can modify..

now if you could program assembler, and you stole the source code for the 99-02 PCM from GM, THEN you could do it....

theres a guy on ebay (baker electronics i think) that sells all kinds of cool little black boxes to do just that...

EDIT:
hptuners, efilive, and LS1edit(ick) all now support changing it.

Has anyone here actually USED the Bakerelectronix converter?

I bought one (not installed yet obviously), but Bruce thinks we should just put in a separate tach anyway - says he doubts it will work right.

I really don't want to put in another tach - I'd rather use the stock one. Results, anyone?

Hmm...tell that to my PCM. No tach converter hardware on mine, and it's generating a V8 tach output.

LS1-Edit v.1.6 has a tach output control you can modify. It's in beta right now and I've been using the tach patch successfully for over a week now.

I imagine the LS1-Edit and HP Tuner guys are probably disassembling the binaries and commenting them, same process people used in the TPI days but the binaries are muuuuch bigger now...and growing...

heheh, my 86 Stang's tach has a switch to selct 4-6-8. This thing might be pretty easy when I finally get around to it!

Yes I have it and used it...the tach box does do what it is supposed to do (multiply the # of pulses/rev? by two), however my tach wire from my pcm is not doing what its supposed to do so I dont know how accurate it is yet.
