Default Need help wiring factory gauge cluster to engine harness

Im trying to hook up the factory camaro gauge cluster to the engine harness to make all the gauges work. I have the under dash harness, but it has a TON of extra wiring I dont need.

Did you guys just cut the wires off the plug into the cluster and then rewire each of them to where they need to go?? Or did you strip out the wires of the dash harness that were from the cluster?

you need to goto the autoparts store and get a pin removal tool... this tool will allow you to easily remove the pins (with wires on them) from the GM connectors.

then just remove all the wires from the underdash harness that you dont need and arnt going to use.

If so any details on how you did it?

Most of the gauges are fed serial data from the PCM assuming it's a '99+ LS1. Only oil pressure and (maybe) voltage are direct-fed, the rest of the dials move as the PCM tells them to move.

Here's one tip: be more detailed in your posts, eg. specify it's a '98 PCM and harness up front so people won't waste their time posting the wrong info.

I'm trying to figure out the same thing, but I'm looking to transplant a 99 LS1 from a TransAm into my 1993 Chevy van. The van has an ALDL connector but the newer engine is OBD-II... Any help would be appreciated. I have the HELMs electrical and shop manuals for the Van, but having a hard time reading through all that crap as I'm not an electrical engineer.

just get the pinouts from the gauge cluster and the pcm and match them up. Simple as that.

After all that searching did you finally match them up and do it yourself?? (and did it work?)

i havent hooked it up yet but i ran into a problem because the vette cluster gets the oil pressure from the vette computer in the serial data stream. However the 98 f-body oil pressure sensor goes straight to the gauge. Other than that I dont see any problems with the rest of the gauges but only time will tell.

Actually I am in the same sinking boat. I have a complete 99 Z28 wrecked with LS1 with Futral F11 cam. I am trying to figure out what I need to do to get the guages to work. I am transplanting this into my 86 Monte Carlo SS.
I would like to keep the guage cluster as close to stock 86 Monte SS as I can, but I am open to options.

I have the complete car still as I have not yet stripped it of what I need.

Anyone have any ideas
