Default whats the current theory/opinion editing software for the LS1

Should I use LS1 edit - HPtuners - FAST

HPtuners looks to be a nice setup and the price is a little lower atleast initially.
But the LS1 edit comes with a little more right off the bat.

LS1Edit is quite far behind products like HPTuners and EFILive in usability, number of parameters/tables, integrated features, etc.. FAST is an aftermarket EFI system that doesn't use factory hardware.

EFILIVE is 700
and HP TUNERS is 500

Besides the data logger what make the EFILIVE $200 more.

External inputs/outputs. It's a $150 option with HPT. Do a search in the tuning section. This debate has been covered eleventybillion times over there.

The end result of every debate: You can't go wrong with EFI Live or HP Tuners.

Exactly - they both are kick ***, so you pick based on which package fits YOUR needs the best.

either HPtuners or EFI live... i prefer HPtuners... mostly because thats what i already own.. lol.
LS1edit comes with less off the bat.... and you'll quickly find its followed by less support, less flexibility, and less info online..

My vote is for EFILive because it comes with free software upgrades. That way when they come up with new features you can just download it from the web. That is one of the main reasons EFILive is my pick. I haven't saved my pennies yet for it but I need it to reset my Tach and speedometer and then tune the engine.

They also offer tuning classes that I will try to find out where to attend.

Most people like what they are use to. LS1Edit was the first on the block and most people that use it like it. HPTuners and EFILive are newer where EFILive is based in Austrailia.

just FYI before someone else says it... HPtuners also has free software upgrades... and it does the tach and speedo thing...

the two are in close competition with each other.. so whatever one does, the other does.. its really great for us consumers right now... you cant go wrong with either one.

I think I'll be doing the HPTUNERS, They seem near Identical and the 200 bucks is enough to sway me.

Your right though I checked there debates, OUT OF CONTROL THEY ARE

i think the main holdback on that is the hardware..

the older ECMs used serial communications.. with one transistor and some wire, you could have a usable data cable.. and the PROM burners were over the counter..

now you need a ODBII PWM cable that can do full communications... and the people doing the work for the specialty hardware dont want to sell it cheap.. if someone made a cheap cable, then im sure some software would follow...

cheapest ODBII method out now is the ELM chip... but it cant support high speed communications, and i dont know if its capable of sending the commands to tune with... its really just for cheap homemade scanners..

There WAS an "open source" movement at one time, but it turned into a commercial product and the web forums were "closed" once the folks behind it had the info they needed.

... and before anyone asks, no I won't say who it is, we don't need the drama..

If anyone wanted to start up another project, much of the information IS available on how to do it. BUT it'd be a lot of work. I think its easier and more cost effective to buy a proven, reliable, and kick *** package from one of our sponsors.

by the time versions 2.x.x comes out, its proven.

nothing beats reliability like having thousands of people verify code,

kick ***... as in functionality and ease of use? At the least, the open program would not be less functional than the $$$ one. (well maybe at first, but it would grow much faster with a team of thousands than a small corporate team)

unfortunately, I doubt that many of us car nuts are also slackware slinging code monkeys. All the CS majors at my school drive imports and fantasize about M3s.

Regardless, I look forward to that day in the post-emission hydrogen future where the means to tune a car comes standard with the vehicle... like the little crappy jack all cars come with.

yea.. it surprises me too..
im a programmer... although im very limited at embedded code.. im just starting out on that stuff still.. ive been trying to teach myself it for about 6 months now...

id like to take a class on it, but everywhere that has one has prerequisite classes that im not taking.. i dont have time to take all of them, and im not after a degree in it.. lol.

if someone handed me a paper that gave me the commands, math or whatever, and all you needed was a flexible interface, i could do that...

Has anyone tried this one: http://www.ls1m.com/

It is a scanning software that's run on Palm PDA's.

It's a lot easier to carry around than a laptop.
