I want to swap an LS1/T56 into a 90-96 300Z. The sbc swap has been fully documented for the early Zcar's, but the information does not apply to the late models. Does anyone have any links, advice, etc? I am a regular on hybridz.org, and have not had any helpful responses to my post on that site. I have purchased the GM LS1 swap manual for background information.
Thanks in advance,
Danny Kelly

I have no technical advice to give, but that would be an awesome swap. While I was driving my BMWs, my father purchased a 9x 300ZX 2+2. What a sweet touring car. I drove that thing from IL to FL without the slightest discomfort. What that heavy thing needs is a stump pulling LS1 to get it's fat *** up and moving. That car is crazy stable at speed and has great looks even today. I would pass on T-tops on anything but black cars, it just looks to busy. Hope you find some info, or decide to pioneer the way for others.

Thanks Derek. I agree, the car was way ahead of its time when it was introduced in 90, and it still looks really stylish today. Without a doubt it needs a V8. Do you know how heavy they are? Also, how is headroom, I am 6'2" and have never sat in one.
Thanks again,
Danny

Damn. I thought my post on hybridz was fairly helpful. Did you not see this thread ( http://www.hybridz.org/ubb/ultimateb...c;f=1;t=002791 ) there (it was about 2 down from yours, posted the previous day)?

Thanks Jeromio. I looked at the post, but I am hoping to find someone who has completed the swap and can provide some advice about what to do and what not to do. I will try emailing him to see if he has any good advice.
Thanks,
Danny

Danny, I am 6'2" as well and there is plenty of both leg and head room. As for weight, the non-turbo coupe is the lightest. Here is some info I found that is constistent with my recollection of the vehicle weights.
Curb Weight (Manual) :
1430 kg (3146 lb.) [2-SEATER]
1548 kg (3405 lb.) [2+2]
1563 kg (3438 lb.) [CONVERTIBLE]
1595 kg (3509 lb.) [TWIN TURBO]

There was one floating around here a while back. A quick search turned up this thread and this one that talks about a manual for swapping an LS1 into a 300ZX.
