Default What fuel line/fuel rail to use??????????

hello!

What should i do? I have new 405hp gm ls6 engine and as you know it comes fuel rail/line wich only has an single feed (as all 1999 + models do?)or inlet because regulator is in intank pump unit.

I liked to use external Bosch efi pump ,so what is the correct fuel line/rail to use and does it come with regulator and is it in preset for correct pressure for LS6?

Thanks!

You can also hunt down a 97-98 C5 fuel rail which had a return & regulator built in. If you do that, you can have AN fittings brazed on, then run regular AN line for feed & return lines, no need to get a regulator.

I also have a question about this. I'm going to be putting a ls1/t56 into my 80 firebird. So basically your saying that i can keep my gas tank, and just add an external fuel pump and take out the fuel return lines? I'll be getting a 99 Camaro SS engine and tranny, and will stick with their fuel system, so i'm going to need to get a pressure regulator or get an external pump with a built in regulator? Do I need to change anything with my tank that I already have?

Thanks!

If you use an big intank/inline fuel pump, Just add a inline Fuel regulator and run the fuel system like a "deadhead" non-return line setup. You will just adjust pressure with the external (before fuel rail) regulator.

I hunted one down and got it for like $25 or something. Do some calling around, post some WTB ads on here, ls1.com, vette forums etc etc. When you are done, be sure it has no leaks. We ended up having to braze our fittings on twice, and JB welded over to ensure no leaks, with a smooth finish. Looks great though, and we ran the same size AN line all the up & back, making for ease of getting fittings and such.

Another thought - you COULD use a truck intake & rails for your setup (if it will clear your hood).

Pros- high flow - a few CFM short of flowing like an LS6 intake - cheap, truck intakes can be had cheaper than an LS6 intake - has return line built in, with regulator.

Cons- you lose that LS1 look that helps anyone identify what the motor is - I'm also not 100% sure the LS1 type injectors (Multec 2 type) can be used with the truck intake/fuel rail. I have 2 of the truck intakes at home, I'll look when I get a chance.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. I'm going through how I'm going to do the fuel system on my Jeep right now...

I used the mallory 110FI fuel pump and the regulator that comes with it. It works great. I do have a question. Do the no returnless systems have vacuum feedback to the regulator or is it built into the PCM calibration. I used vacuum sensing but that was because mine is forced induction but otherwise has anybody ran it without vacuum feedback regulators?

The tables in the PCM are setup for NO vacuum compensation of the fuel pressure. Only the trucks (4.8, 5.3, 6.0) use the vacuum reference.

If you can't find the 97-98 Corvette dual line fuel rail, the Aeromotive EFI adjustable in-line regulator works great and you can mount it anywhere. I use them on all of the single line LS1's here. Set it to 58psi and forget it!

I am also doing an LS1 swap into a 72 Camaro. I was wondering what to do for a fuel system also. Now if I get the Aeromotive pump and regulator w/o a return line, Will there be an excessive wear on the pump? The main thing I'm worried abour is burning up a 300 dollar pump, because of not having a return line.
Thanks in advance,
Bill Johnson

One way or another, ALL of these systems have a return line. From the factory it is just very short and back by the tank (except for the 97-98 Corvette). The add on regulators from Aeromotive or whoever, give you the provision for adding the return line. That is how they regulate the pressure. You must use a return line, but it is up to you where you mount the regulator and how long the return line will be.
You would indeed have short pump life if it was dead headed all of the time!

Ok, Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of thier regulators to be the same as the ones used for a carburator, with just a inlet and outlet. Didnt even think of a provision for a return.
Thanks,
Bill

Aeromotive also makes a fuel pump controller that varies voltage to the pump (part # 16302) for return style system. It does need a 5.0v square signal that, which i beleive, is the output of the VSS on the T56 (John at Speartech probably has the answer). It also has a solid state transistor cicuit to replace the fuel pump relay (according to Aeromotive) and also has a override toggle switch (incase controller goes bad or for the 1320' trips maybe?) Just some more info!

I was looking at the aeromotive pressure regulators, and it looks as though you still have to go through to rails to the regulator and then the regulator returns the fuel to the tank. Is there a specific regulator anybody on here has been using? Thanks
Bill

I'm running all Aeromotive stuff (transplant still under construction). Fuel pump # A1000, regulator # 13101, filters # 12301 & 12304 and looking to use the controller # 16302 also. The fuel rails are from SpeedInc (LS1speed.com). Braided -10 hosefrom tank, fiter, pump, filter, rails, regulator and -6 to return. I know this is a little overkill as I'm shooting for 400hp engine/100nos, but I want it to look good too. And I'll never have to upgrade the fuel system.

68LSS1: Yes, you're ready for anything with that setup!! I was thinking the input for the Aeromotive controller was for RPM; as the revs climb to a certain point, it kicks the voltage to the pump up higher for more output, but I've never used one so I don't know for sure. I usually use the 13109 regulator for its #6AN fittings and "normal" sized fuel hose. You are right; you won't need to upgrade later! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

John B: The table for injector flow rate vs load is a different number at each entry with an uncompensated regulator (the injector will flow a different amount at various MAP numbers with constant fuel pressure). On the truck fuel tables the injector flow rate is the SAME number for all load entries since the regulator pressure raises as the load goes up.

Lesrace82: I have used regulators from Essex, Lingenfelter, and probably others, but over the last year or so I've kind of settled on the Aeromotive 13109. It has 3 #6AN ports (in, out, return), and is reasonably priced.

If you look at my 91 Z28 project car at: http://www.speartech.com/coproj-1991ls1.html

you can scroll down and see it mounted on the drivers side fenderwell. The reason I put it there was due to the fact that the stock TPI fuel lines terminated right there.

On the LS1 street rods we've been doing, we have been mounting the regulator down under on the frame so it's completely out of sight, and the only thing you see coming to the engine is the single fuel feed line.
