98LS-1 into an 85 Vette??
98LS-1 into an 85 Vette?? Im new to the Corvette world, (Camaro Driver) Anyway I just got an 85 Vette CHEAP and a used 98 Corvette LS-1 CHEAP. Now I want to put'em together. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? Im going to need new coil packs, and a new ECM. Im also pretty sure Im going to need new engine mounts, wiring, ect. Oh and a transmission, it came with the 4+3, but I want a 6-speed. Im not sure I could use the 4+3 even if I wanted to. Is this even worth it??? Or should I put that LS-1 into something else (more worthy?)

Re: 98LS-1 into an 85 Vette?? I just finished this swap in my c4. I tore out the l98 for a carbed' 383, then a 480" bigblock now a ls1.
Buy the conversion motor mount plates ($60) from Street and performance. The motor fit in perfect. Keep your l98 motor mounts, they bolt to the S&P plate.
Sell your 4+3. To much pain to put it on there. Get a ls1 specific t-56 with factory flywheel etc.
And use MAC Shorty ls1 headers (they fit in my c4 real well) and i paid like $250 for them.
Use TRUCK accessory brackets if you can. The stuff in new 99+ chevy trucks moves the altenator up high. You will have to remove the a/c compressor off the bottom and have the altenator up high, and it will drop right in

i had the same idea about a year ago and found out that it is possible but its a nightmare to get everything to work right with the ECU and tranny but if you have the money and time i say go for it and good luck.

It can be done, but the electrical and cooling setup will be a major headache.
If you could sell it for a good price and then buy a regular supped up-SBC, you would save yourself alot of time and probably a great deal of money.
i had the same idea about a year ago and found out that it is possible but its a nightmare to get everything to work right with the ECU and tranny but if you have the money and time i say go for it and good luck.

Re: 98LS-1 into an 85 Vette?? correction 97 LS-1, and anyone know anything about the Electronic Throttle Controll? Whats best to keep that or go with a cable throttle?

Re: 98LS-1 into an 85 Vette?? Are you sticking with the fly by wire throttle and vette pcm???? If so you will also need a throttle peddle have VATs deleted from the PCM. Personally I would switch to the F-body electronics. It doesn't have the fly by wire throttle, and VATs is much easier to get around. I don't have the part numbers for the vette electronics and harness but the coil packs are 12558948. I don't want to add confusion but I have part numbers for the F-body PCM and harness. There are also two harnesses that won't come with the standard engine harness (y or f body) they are the coil pack harness 15301401 (you will need two) and the knock sensor harness 15320925

Fuel pump?? 85 had the intank pump right? Do I need to replace my entire fuel system, or can I get away with just the pump?
