it is dependent on rpm and hp.

For our street ls1 aplications i think 1.75 primaries are fine. Many people opt for steped headers but after talking to severl people it just does not seem that critical unless you are after ever last hp. Of course tube wall thickness is also a issue. Typical is .035 for race cars...I used .062 which is more typical for street cars. Many people use thicker but i do not think it to be nessessary.

Header length is another factor for a engine of high rpm 8,000ish i think u want length to be about 28" and for low rpm like 5800 i think somthing like 35-36 is what u want.

I used a burns merge collector that sweeps back into a 3" tube

If i can help any more ask me jk000084486@ltu.edu

thanks guys....this is mostly a stock motor and im not exactly going for a race application. So 1-3/4" is a good diameter to shoot for? I dont have a lot of room so the length is out of my control for the most part.

Argon -

What ended up being the total price on your stainless headers? I was bent on making stainless headers for my application until I saw the difference of around $200 for mild steel and well over $700 for stainless.

Wondering if I was looking in the wrong places for stainless header tubing or not....

If you go mild steel just get them ceramic coated (jet-hot) etc.
For a stock engine I would go smaller primaries either 1 1/2" or 1 5/8" these make the job easier to make and work with in a confined space. 1 3/4" is good if you want max top end HP or you have some work done, but sort of overkill on a stock engine.
