Default 3rd gen F-body LS1 guys come in....

I have several different catagorys of questions regarding exhaust on your Ls1 swap.

1st.... What all has worked, as of right now i now Manifolds work great,i have heard that someone made 4th gen Lt's work but not sure what he did to make them work? I know that Hawks has some nice looking Long tubes.
But besides that i am curious what all has been tried and worked?

2nd...which type tend to potentially flow better (z06 mani's,C5's,late F-bodys) ?
Do Shortie headers work at all? Mid lenths?
Also i have been wondering if the new '06 z06 manifolds would work?

3rd.... What kind of results have you gotten power wise with the setup's you do have?
Thanks for any input

1st: I have ported stock manifolds cats and custom Y pipe. I understand the only LT that fit are the ones from hawks.
2nd: I don't know about vette manifolds. I know 00 and up F body manifolds flow as well as shortys
3rd: I dynoed 331 rwhp with a mild comp cam. I am running a TPI air cleaner setup and Vette doctors said it's costing me about 20 hp. I will be changing that soon

you kept the stock air cleaner setup? Thats definitly holding you back. It was choking the little 305's...its gotta be suffacating the 346 Good to know your changing that soon. What are the specs on your cam? What do you have for the rest of your exhaust system?

I have seen a Rx-7 with a ls1 swap with a Tr224 cam, home ported stock valved 241 heads, that had ported stock manifolds and a 3 inch exhaust done right from the traingle flang on the manifold and all the way back to a magnaflow muffler. he dynoed 399hp and 387tq. I was impressed. But i assume the z06 manifolds might have alittle more potential than the f-body ones.
If you have seen the '06 Z06 manifold...they almost look like mac mid lenths IMO. I just wonder if they will fit?

It's not the stock unit. I had a TBI ,this is TPI from a 350 with K&N filters. I know still no good. My cam is a comp cam xr265hr high lift. Lift 558/563 dur 212/218 lobe sep 115. It is just a little hotter than the stock LS6 cam. Where I live and drive, a big cam would just be a drivability problem for me.
The rest of my exhaust is an edelbrock 3"

I'm running the SW LT's from hawks and they're awesome!

Don't waste your time/money on shorties... they're not any better than the '99-'02 fbody factory header/manifolds!

Power wise?? Not sure yet... I'm running a full bolt-on H/C LS1 with a T56 and 9" with 4.11's... hoping for 430RWHPand mid 11's on the motor... we'll see

Good to know those headers work good. your car sounds damn good. let me know when you get some numbers in that baby, also what cam and heads are you using?

This can also go for any other ls1 swap setup that used manifolds or headers on there swap.

Your questions were answered right?

Hawks LT or Late Model Manifolds.

And very few thirdgenners have HP numbers on their swap.

(stock manifolds)

i like my headers chris, they definately make more power.
prolly 20-25 more, but is that really worth the grand its gonna set you back?
id start with the stock manifolds, and if you are looking for that last inch, then the headers are a good addition.
i was looking to pick up a bunch of ET at the track, but fell short.
hows it feel being back in the states?

How do the 98 camaro manifolds compare to everything? I though there were clearence issues with later years. I have a set that I got from my brother in law but if they arent any good? Or are you saying that they can be ported to flow better?

I''m using the Hawks motor mounts and they work great, everything lined up perfect. As for the headers, i went with shorties cause the ones i ordered from hawks never showed up(it's been about a year). The shorties did seem like they helped a little compared to the stock vette manifolds. I had a local muffler shop make me a custom y-pipe and i'm running a Corsa Cat-back, sounds awsome with no cats. Once summer comes around i'll have some dyno numbers hopefully.

Default Motor Mounts

Can the stock motor mounts from an LS1 Camaro/Firebird be used for an LS Swap into a Third Gen? Or are the Hawks motor mounts my ONLY choice? Thanks.

I've heard Hawks is not selling SSW headers. Some knock offs. Theres a thread on thirdgen.org about it. "BlueZee's" header flanges are already rusting ect. But I could be worng. research first
