Default Mechanical speedo on T56

Does anyone make a tailshaft mod for the T56 that would add a mechanical output to drive the speedo. Of course you still need the electronic output for the PCM. I would prefer to do this rather than the converter box.
Thanks

I'm curious - why don't you want to use the converter box? I ask because I need to do something also and I was going to use a converter.

The advantage to the Cable-X converter is that you can set it at any time for a gear change or tire diameter change, rather than having to change out a gear.

Just to be clear, you're also advocating the converter over the tailshaft mod asked about originally? If so, I'm still curious why dsrour didn't want to use the converter.

BTW, while we're talking about converters, I ran across this one while researching the topic:

http://www.terf.com/SpeedChangerMechanicalPage.htm

It seems to be a lot cheaper than the cable-x and you don't have to use dip-switches to calibrate it.

Does anyone have info/experience/advice on that converter?

I was not impressed w/ the converter boxes. The needle sweep is not smooth and there seems to be a slight lag and unnatural response to speed changes.

The operation of the speedometer is suboptimal w/ the converter boxes that I have seen installed. They don't seem to react as fast and are somewhat nonlinear.
I'm still not clear if Jags that Run or Street Rods make the dual setup T56 tailshaft.

Jags That Run does it. You might want to look at the fact that the mech cable conversion uses a "made" sleeve to hold the driven gear that is then pressed into the tailhousing and epoxied into place. If the driven gear ever goes bad or needs changing for any reason, its gonna be a major redo and if the epoxy really grabs, it might be new tailhousing time! JMO, YMMV..... Bill

My Abbot convertor does work.....but its far from perfect.

Slow to register from standstill, and the speed stops working above around 110-110mph.

But at the time, it was the easiest option for me.
