Pete, I know Calibras came AWD but did Astras ever come AWD. If they did wouldn't it have been easier to use the rear of the AWD hardware to do what your doing just to save you the extra work not that I'm knocking what your doing or anything.

Oh OK, the closest thing we have to an Astra is the Chevy Cobalt which is also powered by the 2.2 Ecotec or 2.0 Supercharged. I wont be surprised if both cars share the same platform. Anyway forgive my rambling, carry on with the good work.

this is truly awesome work. i only dreamt of this type of conversion, only with astra van, when i was in the UK b4 i came back to OZ.
there are ls1 conversions into everything these days, interestingly enough there was a ls1 powered citroen DS at the SEMA show recently

This little car should rip. I hope you don't encounter any bumpsteer problems.

NoS? What's this talk about laffing gas?
Trust me, your std LS1 will be plenty in that car.
Mine weighs in at just over 1100kg, though I'm using old technology, not LS1/2/6/7 with a Dart block'd 6730cc all alloy Chevy in my Astra Saloon (aka Belmont). Then again, I'm using a Muncie M22 4speed, you're using the T56, but I have a heavy Strange Industries 9" rear end. And lots of plastic panels!
So your 1350Kg might be about right.
Oh, and mine runs about 700bhp. fun fun fun fun!
My next project will use a LS7 in a Chevy Lacetti (Optra)
All for circuit racing of course.
I really can't wait to see this thing finished. It looks soooo nice. Unlike mine which looks like a godzilla conversion! The LS1 is such a compact motor which helps!
All the best
Rob.

Thanks for that Rob, and love the Belmont
Very interesting web site too mate, I`ll have to look out for ya, when you`re racing,
do you come to Brands ?
And Gen3, trans tunnel fab is on the cards for next week, still fiddling with the exhaust and ARB.

Rollcage tubing turned up yesterday
It`s taken Weicher`s 8 weeks to decide they can only supply a rollcage for the coupe if it has a sunroof, mine hasn`t, so they cant supply one ???
Anyway, their price was £478 for a basic six point bolt in cage.
I`m now making my own using 1 3/4" for the main hoops and 1 1/2" for the ancillaries, cost of 12m 1 3/4" and 18m 1 1/2" CDS 2 .... £257
I know it`s put me back a bit, but at least I`ll have a custom cage to how I want it

Are you using chromoly for the cage Pete ??
What about bending equipment ? I might end up getting forced into caging my car at some point, but having someone else do it, would be a daunting and expensive task.
I hope I dont ahve to....but I think its inevitable given my cars performance and how rules are set to change at the drag venues here soon.

And I made the ARB today too
Using 20mm EN8 round bar, gotta cut the ends to size, form a flat either end and drill 2 holes in the flats either side to link up with the drop links from the front struts.

If you mean a tubela pipe bender (it has a frame, hydraulic ram and formers for different dia tubes) then yes, but it would be better to use a mandrel bender .... far less chance of the pipe collapsing.
Your local Powerflow exhaust dealer will have one, make some patterns, take `em down there and cross his hand with silver, I`m sure he`ll help you out

I knew I'd seen this somewhere before!
Great work so far. I very nearly did this to my Calibra - but I caved and bought a Monaro VXR. Kinda 'ready made' if you will
Can't wait to see it finished. You think it'll be done for PV '07?
