LS1 long tube headers for retrofit
Anyone have any idea what the best choice for long tube headers into a 78 Camaro would be ???? It's getting an LS1 transplant and I kinda don't really want shorties cuz i'm hearing the long tubes are better, I'm not sure if that's absolute or just rumor though.
Any opinions??

Just tried 98-02 camaro pacesetter long tube headers on my 71 camaro. They fit pretty good. Need a little massaging though. The drivers side collector should probably need straightening. It points toward the subframe but does not hit.(about a half inch away) The collector on the passenger side hits the frame where the tubes go into the collector. Going to try and bend this away or dent it in a little. Also the second tube back on the passenger side coming out of the head was close to the bolt on the a arm bushing. The bolt sticks out about an inch. Going to just cut excess off after I get the front end aligned. (All new bushings in front end.) I'm using s&p motor plates.

Sorry, I don't have any pics. I test fit them and pulled motor to notch frame for a/c compressor. I'm using the s&p plates and poly urethane mounts. I am using the early style mounts, short and wide. I had to move the engine frame stands on the crossmember to line up with the mounts using s&p plates.

I was pretty sure the longtubes would be better, the guys at the shop were telling me that their S+P shorties on page 89 would be the best route to go and I was not buyin it.
I figured the long tubes were the way to go but didn't know wtf would fit.
Thanks!!! Anyone else??? I know Lesrace82 used the Edelbrock's with the slip on collectors....not sure which exact ones those are either.....but at least I have a starting point now.
Thanks.

I am planning to use edelbrock victor race series headers with the slip on merge collector. These are for the 4th gen camaros.I got these recommended to me by a member who installed them in his 72. There was slight massaging needed for the driver side otherwise they fit ok. He made his own plates similar to those sold by S&P. He used 1/2" thick plates under the frame mount/pedestal to raise the engine so that the alt would clear the steering linkage
