I found a core 4l60e from a late model tahoe to be a parts donor for the colorado's 4l60e. The bellhousing, torque converter and input shaft are specific to the 3.5, so I am going to swap those parts from the tahoe transmission.

The initial mock up went pretty well. There is plenty of room for the new motor.I marked the area where the oil pan will need to be cut to clear the front differential. After an hour of cutting and grinding the pan is ready to be cleaned and welded.I will weld up the pan before this weekend, and then I will start on the motor mounts.

Isn't chevy supposed to release an 5.3L version of the SS Colorado? I remember seeing a magazine article or something of that.

An LS1 colorado would decimate a Silverado SS or Lightining.

Sweet, sounds like a fun swap. You may need to upgrade to the 4L80E to withstand the loads if you have 4wd. Many of the other conversion threads talk about blown 4L60E's. Good luck and can't wait to watch this progress.

I have a 4L80E, but getting it to bolt up to the transfercase would be an issue. I won't be using the 4 wheel drive under hard acceleration so hopefully the transmission will last for a while. I will have some more updates later on tonight.

Thats about what my car weighs. I dust Silverado SSs and can stay infront of a stock lighting.

I am an x-gm tech with a couple of close friends still working at the dealership. They assured me any warranty issues would be able to fly in under the radar.

I think this truck although fairly heavy, will be able to beat an ss silverado. If it doesn't, it will get a super charger.

I bought a set of 98 camaro exhaust manifolds off of ebay that I am going to use for this swap. I also ordered a set of motor mounts from www.ls1performanceparts.com so I should have everything mocked up pretty soon. I was going to fab my own mounts but I changed my mind after finding out that they were being produced.

I will get some pics posted as soon as some progress is made.

Let us kow how your experience with those guys turns out. Most of the time I hear some pretty bad stuff about their service and their products.

might i suggest that u ditch the truck accs. and damper
and use f body or even better vette accs. instead
u can save 1-1/2 inches of clearance
and cleaner looking install
i prefer to use f body accs and dampers because they tuck the a/c comp
and alt. down low
also i like to remove the resevoir from the p/s pump and use a remote
aluminum can hidden away

Where is a good source for gently used vette / f body accessorys? I am not opposed to buying an engine complete with all the accessorys, but I have not been able to find one that is within my "price range".

I spoke with steve on the phone and he seems to be a really nice guy. I will keep my fingers crossed as I don't want this swap to turn into a career move.
