'71 Chevelle - LS1/T56 - In progress
#521
Last year I only had a front 1 1/8" bar, no rear bar. I hope the rear bar will kill the understeer problems I am having.
Trying to decide whether I should drive the car or pull it with my other toy. Picked up a 2008 TBSS back in October. It's the one on the far left.
I'll probably just drive the Chevelle, 22mpg vs 8-10 towing if I'm lucky.
Dave you still coming this year?

I pulled off a win at the Chevellabration 2010 Autocross this year. The car was running good and doing mostly what I told it. Had some stiff competition this year. Brian Finch was there driving a DSE built car and it came down to the last run. I cut a 18.749 and he followed up with a 18.771, but hit a cone for 2 sec penalty giving me the win. I had a great time and can't wait to get out and run some more. Hoping to make RTTH this year.
Here's one of my runs. There are a couple more on my youtube. My Dad had a blast riding shotgun.

Also won the President's Pick award which is one of the 2 big awards at the show. Chuck Hanson the president of the American Chevelle Enthusiasts Society pick me out of 330 Chevelles at the show.
Put 1430 miles on the car. It ate an electric fan on the way up so I had to next day one in. Then the starter or battery went bad on the way back, but I made it home. I went out to mess with it last night and I pushed the clutch pedal in and it went to the floor. Look under the car and there is hydraulic fluid. Luckily it broke after I parked it. Will have to get these things sorted out over the next week so I can hit the June 27th local SCCA autocross.
Thanks to Mark @ SC&C, Dave @ Hellwig and my Nitto tires.

Great going !... wish that event was a bit closer to the West Coast ! LOL..
I was at the GoodGuys event two weeks ago.. They has the 2 day Auto-x also.. I did that again... but had to give up after a few run.. I think my Posi is about to give up. under hard cornering and under acceleration. it as making these clicking noises.!. It was a used 12 bolt that I picked up and just put it in with new gear oil 6 years ago.. might just need a fuild change or maybe it really gone.. but it drives normal right now..

Nice job Mike. What you didn't say is that Chuck Hansen the ACES pres gave you mad props before he gave you the award. I also think at this point DSE should back the right horse and give you some sponsor dollars. Beyond that stuff watching you only makes me want to get my car done even more. The bad part is that I am working the M22 from the Elcamino. I ordered the parts on Monday morning and they should be here my Thursday (I hope).

Nice win! Too bad I couldn't make it this year to be the crew cheif and designated beer tender. Can't wait to get the koni's and strano's on my car to hit some of the scca races. It will be be nice to have both the beasts out causing trouble!

Have you had any problems with firewall flexing from the clutch master cylinder? I also used a S&P type mount for the stock F-body master cylinder (I used 1/4" steel), and I am getting tons of flexing on the firewall. I have not seen anyone else with a similar problem, so maybe I did something wrong??? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Finally got time to get the new Borgeson steering shaft installed. Did a little driving and it feels good. A little more steering/road feedback, but no vibration. Also cleared up a lot of room near the alternator for those doing LS swaps and need more space. I had ground the side of the alternator down and was worried about the alt going bad out on the road (750 miles each way to Chevellabration) and not being able to easily swap it. The shaft needed to be cut down 8.25" to make it 18 3/4".
Parts:
Upper U-Joint: 1-48 x 1 DD (214352) Aluminum
Lower U-Joint for GC box: 1 x 3/4 DD x 3/4-30 (214931) Aluminum
Telescoping Shaft: 1 x 24" Extended Length (450024)

Thanks. Been a while since I've updated this. We bought a house so it's been eating my time and money. I hope to get out and do some more autocross events soon.
Someone asked about the Hellwig sway bars. They are great and really flattened the car out. I highly recommend them.

hey man i read most of the pages in your thread. you did a good job i like what you did. i had questions about some stuff. i started my build and i have a 70 chevelle anda 2000 ws6 engine and tranny combo. for the wiring harness do i also need to get it from the same car?
#538
You can get an aftermarket wiring harness, but the cheapest route is to use a stock one. I think any LS1 harness will work with your engine as long as it has the same trans setup, but you can always change that like I did. It's easier going from auto to manual if you have to rewire the harness, but it does add some work.

Went to the track again. Still hunting for an 11, but was running lean some passes. Think I needed more fuel in the tank.
