Tranny? Gas tank & pump? rack & pinion? How much are you changing over? Some have done it very minimally, I am replacing just about everything.

thanks for the reply but why do you have to change the gas tank and pump, they should be the same I thought??? and to answer your question I'm just replacing the motor with a stock ls1 w/compcam 230/232 and kook long tubes. i'm also getting a genuine vipper six speed with a mecloud twin dics clucth to go with it. that is all that i can afford right now, so it will have to do. p.s. good luck with that convertion from a v6 to a v8

You don't have to change it, but I am basically changing everything over. Don't the LT1s run at 3 bar pressure where the LS1's run at 4 bar? Are you going to keep a return fuel line, if so, you'll also have to modify your ful rail or get a 97 Vette fuel rail.

As for the Viper T56, make sure you check the tail shaft, input shaft, front plate and bell housing for differences when mouting up an LS1 (and drive shaft yoke).

As far as I know the LT1's used 3 bar fuel pressure where the LS1's use 4 bar (58 psi) fuel pressure. I'm not sure if simply going with an aftermarkter racetronix will work for you or not. I opted to go with the whole tank/pump assy.

im doing the same swap, or atleast getting parts for it. speartech told me that unless i really want the ls1 dash it would be easier to convert without it. they said to modify the stock wiring harness and use a 99+ ls1 harness and computer. they said with that harness and the water temp sensor from a 98 ls1 all my stock gauges would work correctly.

just something to consider.

I'm not sure if a 98 pump ***'y will work, as 98's were the only LS1 F bodies with metal tanks. 99+ used a plastic tank. The mounting of the pump housing assy is dofferent between plastic & metal tanks. One screwed on and one bolted on (IIRC). I ended up going with the plastic style tank & pump assy but actually ordered a Racetronix pump/kit. I have yet to get that far in my project (the pump, tank & rRacetronix stuff is sitting on a shelf in my garage).

You might be able to ask in the fuel section whether a 98 LS1 pump assy cant mount into your LT1 tank. Not sure about the fuel lines either. I believe the LS1 is returnless where the LT1s had a return system. Once again you can modify a 98+ LS1 fuel rail or get a 97 Vette fuel rail (which used a return line), but I'm not sure if that also requires the use of an adjustable regulator when doing that.

Yeah, you need the rack, but you can keep your steering wheel/column.

Once day, I will get pictures and post them as a step by step, but at the rate that I am moving, you'll probably finish yours first

Have you checked out Magnus' website?

yeah you need the rack for sure, the ls1 block is wider and where the shaft goes into the rack is more towards the driver side tire on an ls1 ... the lt1 is more towards the middle and wont fit
