maybe this is the wrong place to ask
but i think that this is the perfect place to ask
i trust the opinions of the members of this forum.
so a friend of mine likes the look of the 2nd gen trans am
but is it a POS?
(how much do they weigh?)
is it cheap/expensive/easy/difficult/impossible to build it up?
goals would be consistent 12's with decent mpg
ls1 engine swap, preferrably.
any info would be appreciated

great project car for an LS1... they CAN be found for cheap (although the bandit versions usually cost a fortune), they handle better than a 1st gen, (although many parts are compatible).. have lots of aftermarket parts for, and can be made quick pretty easily. and the later bandit t/a's are one of the coolest cars made.

My '73 non A/C Formula, with a gutted front bumper, 4th gen seats, aluminum 16x8's, headers, duals and an aluminum intake weighed in at 3460 with a ~1/4 tank of gas. Thats with that VERY heavy all iron Pontiac in there.
It'll be interesting to see how much it weighs after the LS1 swap.
