Yes it can, I have seen one in person at chevy vettefest and it was very clean. There was a thread about swapping a LS1 in a fiero a little while ago, you could probably find it with a search.

I'm in the process of getting my mounts built and exhaust done for my Fiero. I'm using an LS6, TSP foged bottom, LPE CNC heads, and the TSP MS3. Should be fun when I'm done.

I would think the 5.3 and transaxle used in the Impala would make the swap a bit easier.
