Thumbs up Let's see your electric fan setup

Here's a constructive thread I couldn't find elsewhere.

I would really love to see some people posting their installed fan setups including:

- fan(s) part name/number (or car it came from)
- pics of the setup
- any info on how you made the brackets
- radiator part name/number (or car it came from)

I have got a stock 1968 3-core GM radiator for my truck. I also have a pair of LT1 fans from a '94-'96 Impala SS. I don't have my stuff installed yet because I can't figure out how to make the brackets yet (haven't tried)

Curious to see your pics, get some ideas, etc. I'm sure this thread will get hit a lot if people post in it, so let's see some leg

Fan Set up: 14" SPAL fan as a puller controlled by ECU, comes on at 195 off at 185. 12" pusher on the AC Condenser that comes on with the AC compressor. Puller fan is mounted on a simple home made bracket, pusher is mounted directly to the condensor with through the core plastic pieces. Works great, temp runs steady 180 with a 180 thermostat and even in heavy traffic has never gone above 205 even on 100+ days. The radiator is a custom 3 core built to fit my car.

Hope that helps some

Pat

Exclamation Holy Crap!

With that huge 3-core radiator, combined with how cool an LS1 engine runs, you don't even need a damn cooling fan! LOL Gar

The pics make it look bigger than it really is, 24"x18". With the 350 I had in there before the LS1, I had to do all kinds of tricks to keep it cool. Air flow through these cars is a challenge. But you are right about the cool running LS1, my fan does not come on nearly as often as it did with the old motor.

thanks for chipping in! Looking forward to seeing more setups.

I think I might go buy some spacers and 16ga steel tomorrow and start playing around.

+1 for SPAL, this one is 1 16", 2350 CFM. It's mounted to a 1999 Corvette radiator via the 4 aluminum tabs. The plan is to use the PCM (fan 1) to control ON/Off as well as a Vintage Air Trinary switch when the AC is on. Car isn’t running yet so I can comment on how cool it will run.

GTPVette,
You will need to cut a couple of holes and cover them with flaps. This is to let air escape on high speed driving. I just saw this on FFcobra forums which I will be doing to my fan shroud too. Here is the link: http://www.ffcobra.com/ubb/ultimateb.../t/002485.html

I had mine made out of SS because that's what I had laying around in my garage. I like the aluminum looks too.

In the thread I've linked below are some mock up pics of the radiator that I'm going to be using in my 346SX. I put up the links to the fans that I'm going to be using as well in that thread. I haven't made up the mounts yet but I'm working on getting them done soon here.

The fans I went with are SPAL fans (it's a Be Cool fsn set up) and they are rated at 2,780 cfm so they should hopefully keep the LS1 cool. The radiator has a 1 3/4" outlet so I will need to get an adapter to make it work with the LS1 but that should hopefully not be so bad.

I think, for the time being, that I'm just going to run a line from the petcock fitting up to the steam vent. I am going to see how much it will be to get a 1¼" fitting with a 1/8" nipple braised into it (locally, preferrably) to mend my hoses together, and if it works out, then I'll just do that and put my petcock back in where it belongs.

Meanwhile, I don't know if you've gotten your hoses dealt with yet, but I will impart this wisdom on you:

13.25" universal "Flex host" is a great fit for the lower hose. It's a hair loose on the water pump side (nothing a clamp doesn't fix) and fits snug on the radiator side (assuming you're going stock). Advance Auto part # 1313 (LINK TO PART. I am sure NAPA carries, but they weren't open when I popped in. When putting it on, I would put the side with more flange on the lower radiator side first with the radiator out, then clamp it down, then fit it to the water pump.

For the upper hose, I somewhat happy with it, got an '02 Silverado upper hose - if you cut it in two pieces (and shorten it in the middle), you can make it work fairly well It's a bit of a stretch to get it on the upper radiator outlet, but ... a little lube to ease it in on there and you're in business.
