I have had a lot of trouble finding metric bolts as well. I try to get as much as I can from arp in the form of kits. 8.8 is all they sell in limited suppy at home depot and automotive shops.

Use the yellow pages to locate your local fastener company.

Las Vegas has Nevada Bolt in two locations and ISLES of nuts & bolts of every size and strength. I just walk in with what I want or the specifics, and they go into the back and come out asking how many would I like. I've seen fastener companies in several large cities and they all could do something simple like any automotive fastener.

Please put your location in your profile so we don't need to ask in order to help you.

What do you need 10.9 for? I'm not trying to be a smart ***, just that people think 10.9 is the best for everything when it's not...

You know if there is a going to be a pulling force on the bolt you want a higher strength. Stuff that might get a twisting force or bending force you want something softer like a grade 5. That way the bolt will bend and not just break.

Do they make bolts that are case hardened? That way you could get the best of both worlds.

I don't need schooling on fasteners...I am a machine builder for a living...I know the difference in the classes of bolts. 8.8 class bolt is not going to work for the applications I need them for. As I stated before, I am merely looking for options on a supplier for fasteners. I can order all the metric fasteners I need from our supplier where I work....if I set up an account with them....don't really want to go through the hassle.....so I was trying to find alternatives.....thanks for those of you that offered suggestions, I appreciate it.

BTW...for those that don't know or were wondering what the differences are:

8.8 class is equal to a grade 5
10.9 class is equal to a grade 8
12.9 class exceeds grade 8 and are heat treated.

So since all the bolts on the LS motor say 8.8, it's OK to use the grade 5 bolts from the hardware store since I'm "just" putting together a plain ol' 427?

Copper State Nut & Bolt -- Phoenix, AZ

This is the source of our 10.9 fasteners & nuts/etc for our Ace Hardware store that I'm an assistant manager of. Most Ace stores do not carry anything over 8.8 due to the restrictions that Ace Corp. places on "dropship" orders (a certain percentage of the items in each Ace have to be Ace only). If you have any questions, send me a PM and I'll see what I can do for you.
