A/C on 68 fire bird LS1

Running a BRP modified subframe with an ls1 out of a 98 camaro. Just purchased the LS1 but it came without accesories. After looking at the 67-69 camaro sticky I noticed that the A/C will not work on the 1st gen F-body. I would like to run a vintage air setup if possible. what are you guys doing to fit the compressor / A/C into the car? Are there brackets that some one has available and would I need to change any of the other accesories out?

I have posted many times before way back when I did my swap....the Vintage air system WILL WORK FINE with the stock LS1 compressor. My swap is going on 4 years old and still blows ice cold air! Enough theorizing, just do it.

WoW, thats good to know, I wass told by people in the business, they wouldn't work together, well it would then it would self destruct, thanks

I am in the business. Electrical engineer who now owns an auto repair shop. Not that this is worth anything. The proof is under the hood of my car. Still no self destruction....at least not the a/c part anyway.

Did you make a pocket in the subframe or just move the plates you made for the engine to accomadate the compressor,

The stock compressor will work fine, but is large and harder to find a place for. The Sanden compressor and the S&P passenger side low compressor mounting makes for a real compact compressor layout. The S&P setup moves the compressor forward so that it is driven by the same belt as the water pump, and moves it very close to the block. This gets the back of the compressor away from the motor mounts, and avoids the need to grind on the mounts to clear the fitting block. I will never mess with a stock compressor again, the Sanden compressor is just an easier fit in most cars.
I chased my tail for days trying to use a stock compressor on a 65 Corvette, and while I finally got it to fit, I realized that I could not change a compressor without pulling the engine! I finally caved in and bought the Sanden setup.
