Default Throttle pedal and cable - 1st gen Camaro

Hey guys – what the simplest pedal and cable to use?
I’m putting a an LS1 into a 69 Camaro. I've seen Lokar mentioned, does it come with the right cable?

Also, (should problem post this elsewhere - but where) anyone in Eastern MA that’s done an LS1 into to anything…would love the help (I know I’ll need a lot).

Thanks

i've been wondering the same thing. i have no idea what im gonna do for a cable, but i heard a 6cyl 1st gen pedal will work somehow but i dont know the specifics. and since you have a 1st gen have you put your front end together? i just posted a question in the body section but i have a feeling no 1st gen guys go there.

The easiest way to do it is to get the 6 cylinder/ cross-ram pedal. It's a direct replacement for the mechanical set-up and switches you over to cable. With this pedal you can probably use either the factory LS1 cable or a lokar cable.

This is an original 69 pedal, but I think you can get re-pops on ebay for pretty cheap.

What John said, I'm going with Lokar pn. tc-1000ls1 36in. cable. Bought my pedal off e-bay, it's from a Nova. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions ask, theres some pretty sharp guys on here.

I'm using a 6-cyl 1st gen Camaro pedal from Rick's (aka '69 302 cross-ram pedal), and I'll be putting in my Lokar throttle cable tomorrow. I think this info is in the sticky at the top. Make sure you do the pedal swap while the engine is out--it's a pain to get to with the engine in with most mount plates (impossible with the Hooker plates).

note not every 6cyl first gen has this pedal. My 67 firebird 6cyl uses the lever arm setup.

I have seen pictures where a 4th gen pedal was used, but probably not the simplest.

one more tip: check that the arm of the pedal lines up with the existing hole in the firewall before installing the engine. My repro pedal from Rick's was about 3/8 off, and I had to pull it back out and stick it in a vise to bend it.

if it was me, i would use a GM cable.... get a non-TCS fbody cable.... it fits perfectly in the stock LS1 bracket, it clicks perfectly on the throttlebody, its more then long enough.... and i like the fact that it blends in...

for some reason, it seems kinda tacky to me to have a bright shiny stainless steel throttlecable... throttle cables shouldnt draw attention, they should blend in IMO.....

for the pedal, theres dozens of possible solutions... i would either use a diffrent pedal, or modify the one you have... LOL.

whats a "TCS" cable? im going to have to get something soon and agree with the non-stainless aproach, but i am unaware of any alternatives.

and does anybody have any pics of how they set theres up (as far as the firewall goes), is there any hole cutting involved to go to a cable vs. the arm style?

TCS is traction control system. Normally in a conversion you non traction control system cable since no one bothers to put a TCS in their conversion.

on the Fbody, there are two throttle cables.

traction control cars had the throttle cable go from the pedal to an electric motor/bellcrank assembly mounted on the passenger side fenderwell... a second cable went from this assembly to the throttle.... this allowed the computer to "lift" the throttle when wheelspin is detected.

non-traction control cars had a normal cable that goes from the pedal directly to the throttlebody.
i got mine from the dealer a couple years ago.... you can also get one from a parts car....
there are alot of other GM cars that you could also pull one from, but i dont know any specific models off the top of my head.

I agree with Mrdude on the shiny cable idea. Especially when you have stock pulleys, valve covers, etc... I tried to get the factory GM throttle cable but the dealer over here was out of stock. So I got the black nylon lokar cable, pn# LOK-TC-1000LS1U from summit. I think the price was around 40 bucks.
