Default been lurking, my LS1 drift car (240sx)

I've been on ls1tech for a while as a lurker really, so here's my too-long introduction.

Decided to go LS1 after breaking 7 transmissions last season with my 2.4l turbocharged nissan setup making around 4-450hp, engine was totally reliable, I just didn't want to spend $4500 on a reliable gearbox

the old setup:

video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdprxGUEG1U

enough with the old, in with the new:

here are the specs on the new build

2000 LS1 from a camaro w/ 15k miles on it will be turned to 7,000rpms and run on E85 Ethanol/gasoline fuel.

- Typhoon Intake manifold
- 90mm Q45 Throttle Body (screw paying $400 for a GM "bolt on" 90mm throttle body, i'll stick to good ol' junkyard $40 TB)
- PRC dual valve springs + titanium retainers
- Comp Cams camshaft w/ specs somewhere in this area: 232/232 w/ .598"/.598" lift
- Comp Cams 7.400" hardened pushrods
- Harland sharp rocker arms
- ARP rod bolts
- ported LS6 oil pump
- LS2 timing set
- Electromotive TecGT engine management
- Billet anodized fuel rails -8 feed, -6 return
- GM 42# fuel injectors
- Walbro 255lph pump
- Custom (yet to be) made by me long-tube headers
- 18"x30"x4" C&R/Visteon Ex Nascar Nextel cup counter-flow radiator + oil to water heat exchanger (had to cut the frame rails)
- 1L custom surge tank, -4 feeds, -10 return
- GTO oil pan + pickup
- notched front X-member
- T56 Transmission (still need to buy) w/ TBD clutch/flywheel

all said and done: i'm hoping for around the 400whp level on our dyno dynamics dyno. However the main point to this whole swap was to have close to equivalent HP to my old KA-T setup while having a reliable transmission!

I still need to buy the Cam, pushrods, transmission, and a couple other things, so ANYONE that could help me source an LS1 T56 I'd really appreciate any help.

I don't like where the engine is sitting, so I might go back and re-notch the X-member, and possible push the motor up an inch or so and see how much further I can massage it back

anyways!!! pictures

Passenger-side mount

surge tank

Too much room in the back because I notched the X-member as much as possible, but that's what's left....

GTO oil pan to X-member clearance.

Looking good so far, I see you are using solid engine mounts.

Let us know how that Q45 TB works out. I am using one on my RB motor that I am swapping for an LS1. I have an extra one I could use, but I am not sure how the ECU will handle the TPS and IAC.

yeah, i'm running full stand alone, so i'm not worried. However, nissan TPS is a nice steady 0-4v sweep. I don't imagine it could really be that different unless GM is full 0-5v. The ECU I use is calibrated/built to GM sensor standards, and the only parameters I can change is WOT voltage and close voltage, usually a 0-5v sweep. I don't run an idle valve, so mine is usually like 0.49-4.00v as I prop the TB open a hair. It just liked to stall the 4 cyl. when it was cold, then idle would be great when it was warm.

However, the Q45 TB has a coolant passage which has a temperature controlled diaphragm that will bump up the idle when cold, and bring it down when hot by adjusting the throttle stop.

The throttle linkage is also on the other side if that makes a difference. You also cannot use a plastic intake manifold because you have to drill/tap and do a little finessing.

Last but not least, you'd need to fabricate some sort of idle control that does not run through/ in conjunction w/ the LS throttle body (i was told LS1 works this way, never actually looked closely at one of the GM throttle bodies)

I see you're in westminster; I'm based out of ma-motorsports in baltimore.

Is that the same car that was banged up at Formula D in Chicago in 2005? The paint job looks familiar.

nice car, great swap....but damn those stars are gay. Sorry guess we all just have diffrent taste. I think you will find that the ls1's have a TON more usable power than that KA. Good luck and keep us updated.

We shall see. I really loved how useable the KA power was compared to the SRs that most swap.

My KA was full boost by 3200 RPMs w/ a GT3076R turbo revving to 7k w/ a 7.5" twin plate clutch and tons of other goodies, so it revved, it was responsive, and made fairly linear power delivery that had no problems breaking 265/35/18 rear tires loose in 4th gear.

p.s. I'm cool w/ gay looking. I'm artsy/hippy at heart.

Hey Matt, looks good! Its funny you posted up, Fedor came into my shop today (Tuning factory) and mentioned you sending him pics of your setup. He had nothing but good things to say and I can see why

Give me a holler if you need any help.

yes, and yes, i sold pretty much all the broken stuff for minimal amounts, just to get it off and get some gas/expense money for the ride home
