Default Budget LT1 T56 into Miata

Guys I am wanting to do a conversion of a LT1 into an early miata. I was wondering outide of the cost of the vehicle and drivetrain, what do you think I could do this swap for?

What kind of rear end would have to be used?
Is there a lot of fab work required?

stacey davis, guy from trucks from spike, is doing or did a miata swap on espn. I wouldn't call him He spent close to 20k on his but claims 10k is possible. http://www.monstermiata.com/ is a good place to find out what it will take.

TAEnvy,

There are several of us whom have built LSX powered Miata's. Some using kits, others on their own. The LSX/T56 is a better choice for the swap. Most important parts are the K-member, sub-frame bracing, suspension, & BIG brakes. There's a lot of information @ miata.net as well. A properly built LSX powered Miata is not an inexpensive build. I would agree that if corners are cut, there is money to save, but, @ the expense of handling. See sig for details.

mike1500,
Anyone whom considers an LSX powered Miata has never raced against one on an oval or a road course. A properly built & set up LSX powered Miata is a track beast. Further, Miata platformed vehicles are best suited for open track racing, not drag racing. If the goal is for fast ET's, then a car with larger wheel wells & a longer wheel base is far better suited for the job.

I have a sbc miata with a t56. Here are some pics. Mine is carbed, but still gives you the basic idea.

Mike I would have to say that a pic of your cat saying wow behind your car is much more gay then a V8 miata.

Sure it only runs 11.72@126, but let me remind you that is on 7" slicks.

Have fun with your cars, guys!!!!!!!

mx5.7 is such a huge cowl needed for that setup or an LS1 style setup, or can you get away with a stock-ish tiny cowl hood on the miata?? Looks good, bet its fun on the high way or any open roads

A buddy of mine has a late Miata with a little turbo on it... Hell, even that's impressive! I can't imagine a big V8!

Wow, that is a roooomy engine bay in the Miata compared to our BMW E30 ... We had to make a custom hydroboost sub-system to move the brake master cyl, we're going to have to make a custom piece of fiberglass for our inlet duct. Nice piece of work!
