If anyone is interested I can take photos of the Holley 302-2 pan as it sits with the engine installed on the new Hooker G-body engine mounts and post them up. There's also a bolt-in trap door baffle available for the 302-2 pan for those doing some racing.

Thats with 1" setback plates, any more setback and you will be literally notching the firewall for the motor rather than the frame for the oil pan lol.

Sorry, been busy.

Not sure about 1 1/2". Haven't had a chance to measure but I would say the driver side head is a little closer than that. Maybe 3/4" or so. Passenger side, well I have HVAC still and I had to notch for that.

Default LS1 swap in to an 85 Monte Carlo

I'm just starting my swap and all I've got right now is the Monte and an 02 5.7 LS1 from a wrecked Trans Am WS6. Would like any suggestions on Headers, mounts, fuel system and wiring harness. I'm not all that great with electrical and want to know if its worth it to rewire the old harness from the Pontiac? Any helpful tips or heads up on anything I might run into would also be appreciated.

Thanks...

Default Holley 302-2 oil pan clearances with new Hooker G-body mounts

As I promised previously, here's some photos showing the clearances of the Holley 302-2 pan in a G-body with the engine mounted using the upcoming new Hooker swap mounts and transmission crossmember. The distance between the engine and firewall will be affected by the height/inclination angle of your engine and not just the amount of set-back in your mounts, so keep that in mind...the higher your engine is, the more of an issue it creates for obtaining desirable clearances with the bellhousing and wiring connectors of the 4L80 transmission. The design of the 302-2 Holley oil pan permitted the new Hooker brackets to be able to position the front of the engine 1" lower than what the older Hooker clamshell swap brackets put it at, which means you can use the truck accessory drive set-up and close the hood without having interference between the hood and alternator. As a point of reference, the engine set-back amount using the new Hooker mounts is 3/4". I will have the answer to whether or not the GTO alternator clears the steering box by tomorrow morning and report it here.[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Hey 6togo, you will have issues achieving a desirable engine inclination angle AND suitable clearances between the floor and the 4L80 case and wiring connectors on the side of the case if you are planning to use typical "swap plates" or the adjustable variety of those plates as they put the engine too high in the chassis to accomplish it.

Previously you said that the new mounts would be 1/4" now you say 3/4" which is it? I think 3/4" would be close enough that I could get away with using my stock drive shaft with my 200r4.

Yep, I miss-spoke earlier. The engine set-back is approximately 3/4", which is the same as saying your transmission will be relocated forward by 1/4". We've done a test fit here on a car with a stock TH350 and were able to bolt the stock TH350 crossmember and driveshaft right back in. That does not mean to say there was a safe amount of engagement of the slip yoke into the transmission however...that's something you'll have to determine for yourself.

The 3/4" setback is good news! Can't wait to see what you find with the gto alt. what steering box will you be test fitting it with?

The only steering box that has any possibility that the GTO alternator might fit with is the Saginaw quick-ratio 700 series box, such as installed as original equipment on the Monte Carlo SS vehicles. The F-body or GTO low-mount alternators will not install with the 605 steering box that was used on the run-of-the-mill G-body cars. The truck accessory drive has the greatest range of steering box compatibility as it can be installed with the Saginaw 605 and 700 boxes as well as the newer Delphi 600 box. I have our shop Monte SS set-up with the 700 box and am just awaiting delivery of the GTO alternator to test it for fitment.

I would expect it to be something that varies from car to car depending on how far it engaged to start with. I guess you could also move the diff closer an 1/8" or so with adjustable control arms, I know it's not the right way to do it but I don't see what it would hurt.

To bad the 302-2 cant do a 4" stroke or it would be a easy choice! I have solid mounts from UMI which based on another member they sit fairly low but i'm not concerned about cutting them down or moving them to obtain the correct placement.
