I'm always surprised when I browse this forum
I remember when we were just getting the forum going, I had had the pleasure of checking out two of the earliest LSx swaps in the late 90's, one was that '59 Caddy out in NJ that also was turbocharged (anyone know that guy), and a local friend put an LS1 into a '68 Camaro back in around 1999. When I added this forum I had no idea that there would be this much traffic.
Hopefully my new (to me) '51 Merc lead sled will eventually receive an LS-something mill and have the potential to run 10's (my only stipulation) but my guess is that I'll need nitrous to get there or some sort of power adder given the weight of the car.

This particular forum (the conversions section) is the one I check daily. I rarely go outside of it, and without it, we would probably still be trying to get the LS1 in. This is an awesome resource, with a very diverse set of opinions, ideas, and personalities.

Although I read other forums on the board too, I also check this one at least daily. It's not just for the little tips that might help my own swap go a bit smoother (though that's a big part of it) - to be honest, it's flat-out inspiring to me to see the imagination & creativity that go into some of these builds...
Hit the nail right on the head! I think I'm addicted to this forum, it corrupted my mind..
I can't help but think how cool it would be to convert my 1989 Honda Accord dd to rwd with an Ls1, 6speed, hidden quiet dual exhausts, and the stock wheels with Honda hubcaps Maybe one day when I have a bigger garage and bigger wallet... I keep having daydreams about this sleeper!

John, You have done a great job with this Forum. !
I think you will find working on the older Classic just as rewarding as the newer F-Body and going fast..
This is were you will really use your creative skills and imagination along with your gofast skills.. you can start thinking outside of the Racer box now and become a customizer!.. without all of the racer pressure.. I find that much more enjoyable.. but there is nothing wrong with going FAST!
I look forward you following your project..! and no use wishing you good luck on your project.. cause you have already gotten off to a great start as a project car!
Thanks for the great work on the forum..!

I used to have older cars, I always had a pre-72 around up until around 1999, when I sold my '69 Z/28.
Anyway, I have no idea how much power it would take to get this dinosaur into the 10's, but I've seen one place quote a curb weight of 3200, so maybe it's not as heavy as it looks.
I have to admit, I liked the movies Cobra and American Graffiti, hence wanting one of these cars. I liked Mad Max too, hence wanting nawwws on this car.

I credit the forum and all the helpful folks with making my swap a success. Great idea and an even greater bunch of helpful folks. My current swap is technically done, at least for the moment. I still stop by here at least daily to see what's going on and to help others out when I can.
Good luck with your Merc John. Trying to make a dual purpose car tht runs that fast will be an ultimate challenge. But it would be cool to see a sled pull the front wheels! The true weight may depend on how much lead really is in there!

Yeah I'm hoping when I sit down and list out my questions that I can browse this forum and figure it all out. Big Q for me will be exhaust and fuel system (of course).

I have to say that my project went a bit easier with the help of this forum. I pop in from time to time, don't get the chance to really spend the time I would like since I'm at work. I refer other builders to this page all the time, there is nothing better than to get tips and tricks from the guys who have "been there, done that".
I've been around a few years.

I'd be asking a lot of questions to guys like Stu and others who have running old pre-1960 cars.
So nobody knows the 1959 Caddy from around Etown with the turbo on in it? I woulda thought someone would have taken pics. Guy told me he was an engineer.
